Just have to vent something that has got the hair on my neck standing on end

I recently updated my Want list chasing my PC players and a couple of side sets just to keep things rolling along !

Between the occasional fair offer I have to filter through a heap of crap offers !!! My wantlist does not mean "I am now a sucker" want list ! Just because I am chasing them, it does not mean I am paying book value in cash !

Yes I do want an acie law sweet shot auto RC or even Horford but it does not mean I will hand over a Lebron james or Durant RC to get it.... who actually would normally do that ???

Sure I can understand that people want to make a buck or 2 which is fair enough but to be offered cards that don't sell for $1 for 5 x that amount is a joke

Sadly it tends to be a few of the same collectors that seem to rarely buy unless the cards are being given away and only sell at ridiculous prices. The same collector that wants to trade their standard sticker auto's for all your RC auto's

Talk about taking the fun out of the hobby or thinking of having a want list with set chases for the quieter times

PS, I understand that it is easy enough to make an error in an offer because we all have different views on values at times but if you keep getting knocked back then perhaps it is time to actually do some research on prices etc before making your offer ! most people do

Instead of having a public whinge get some balls and tell the people themselves!

IMHO posts like this are because you want to "out" a person or two but don't want it to look like you are so you don't mention names......but those people know who they are. These posts serve no purpose other than to have a whinge and possibly cause the other party to get involved ensuring for a public argument.

The whole "offer cheap - sell high" is a common theme in card collecting and it has been for years so address it and move on.

I think you may have not understood my thread ! My complaint is about crap trade offers and not buying low and selling high !

Yeah I suppose you are right about a couple of points, to you this thread may be a waste of time but I also think its a waste of time asking people to vote on a subject and having no intention of doing anything with that vote !?

As for having balls to tell people. I have no problem telling people what I think which is sometimes to my detriment. Some people seem to have selective hearing/reading in some cases which is why I posted this thread !

to say that people who just Buy low and sell high is part of the hobby is the biggest cop out of the lot ! there are plenty of fair collectors. Its a bit like when I first got back into collecting after 10 years, having stopped collecting in the mid 90's and it was amazing how many people ripped me off ! I just think it is perhaps a lack of common sense or just plain ignorance.

PS, if i actually needed some advice, you would be the last person I would be asking but thanks for the tips on life and stuff.

i know this is partially directed at me, so i mose well chuck in my 2 bits worth..

cards are a matter of supply and demand..
the sell has possession of the card and has the ability to ask for their price, if you dont like the initial offer, make a counter offer, quite often most people will come to an agreement..

or, simply a quick PM, with 'thanks but, no thanks' is very suffice..

people use wantlists to garner interest and search out wanted cards, i am very appreciative of someone that replys to a wantlist, they have to take time to look thru, usally a long thread, to see if they hold any of the cards that person is searching for..

as far as the buy cheap, sell high goes..
everyone has done it at one stage or another.. cards are an investment.. you dont buy a card and resell it for a loss soon after.. thats just bad economics..
you only buy non-pc cards to resell to make a profit, not a loss..

Everyone bargains differently, some start low and negotiate up and some just bargain hunt depending on there budget and hope to trade some trade bait for a pc card. Either way, an offer is exactly that, if you want to continue you reply and negotiate or u just say "no thanks" and tell them what u prefer.

I had a rant recently about someone asking for a ridiculous amount for some base cards i needed (more than the price of a box of the cards) and in the end it wasnt worth it - there is nothing to gain from rants IMHO.

Buying/trading/selling has too many variables as there is too much info out in the market. Beckett used to be a benchmark for value (while it was right or didnt matter both parties could use it) but this is rarely used nowadays due to other websites who track prices.

if you put prices on your wants then it'll save people wasting their time too wouldn't it?
walk into a car yard and it's obvious your looking for a car yeah?
what would the first question the dealer would ask you?
"what are you prepared to pay for a car no?
no point him showing you the latest commodore when you only have enough for a datsun 180b.

I tend to agree with this, espically the bit that I have Bolded! Why is it so fking hard for people to counter offer......? Seriously, its a massive part of the hobby that people can just not be stuffed with... Lazy as all hell IMO!

The other thing Im finding is almost the opposite... Putting cards up for cheap prices, considerably less then ebay and anywhere else you'll find them, charging just enough to cover postage, and still being asked to half prices or drop $3 off a less then $10 total.. Infuriates me no end but 99% of the time I'll grin and bear it and just decline nicely!

I like how you say decline nicely because there is no point in burning your bridges so yeah great point.

COUNTER OFFER = GREAT SOLUTION compared to WHINGE PUBLICLY = NO SOLUTION

Deal with it and move on I say! It happens ALL the time nowdays so there is NO getting away from it no matter how many whines you make publicly.

I have been sort of active in OCT only in the past 3 months or so and have started to realise who are the clowns and who are the real collectors. Prior to that I have been selling on the Bay for many years and actually know some of the OCT guys from Ebay (without the OCT guys realising that they have dealt with me in the past). Personally, I have burnt may be one or two bridges when I first started OCT but in the same time have identified a couple of good ones as well, people I will deal with on the site on a regular basis, not just because of the good cards but because of their professionalism. I can be a tight*ss sometimes and make it difficult for some of them but somehow or rather they have turned it around by politely saying "no" or making the deal go through. So kudos to those whom have been very professional; here is my list
