Australia post price rise?

So.. I just sent a single card registered post to US today (51gram package) and it cost me $26... that's a lot more than I have previously paid. I Don't think I'll be offering free registered international post on my ebay auctions anymore:eek: Has anyone else noticed this recent hike in postage?
 
i sent one card today too registered to US and it was gonna be $21 registered or $18 insured. pretty expensive. Last package I received registered FROM USA cost them $13.80 or something.

Sent a registered package today (as a document like always), cost $30 instead of the usual $25. Stamps for domestic mail are going up from 50c to 60c... Airmail to Aus $1.80 to $1.90 for a small letter.
 
Australia Post prices went up on the first day of July.

Local letters went up from 55c to 60c, if you haven't noticed.

Prices are excessive compared to the prices see overseas - in the US and in Asia. I do not know why they charge so much. Prices are determined locally, even though most of the shipping may occur overseas. I think they are factoring in costs of rural postage, that is averaged out with all other postage services, so that is why it costs so much more. You can see how expensive it is to send something from the city to a remote Australian site. As international postage is the same everywhere in Australia to one point overseas, they need to factor that cost in if you are in the city or in a remote place.
 
australia post prices have risen in general i think. i dont mind thought because i save so much by buying padded bags in lots of 100 for like $40
 
Actually...I heard a chap from Aust Post on ABC Radio about 2 months ago saying that the number of actual items being sent through the mail has dropped by X million per year - now bills, e-cards, etc can come online. The cost of still running the postal service is the same so they have to make up the short fall and indeed, now make more profit, by gouging those still using post for more $$$. The chap on ABC was aghast and Aust Post were like "Oh we're a business in the 21st century" sort of thing. The whole service thing is disappearing - notice when you just wanna buy a stamp in a Post Office you have to wait in line while people do 100 other things whilst not actually using a postal service. Look at all the tripe they sell too - printer cartridges, books, DVD, teddy bears. Howsabout just some stamps? There's also talk of no more mailmen/women and having a centralised depot for mail collection. Great, eh?

Wait til they kill off the 5c piece, then the price rises will go up by 10c a pop.

Hey mate, My missus found out that just about every newsagency sells stamps, they are the same price as the post office. Has saved me plenty of time lately, plus at the newsagency I can pick up the odd pack or 5 of cards. :)
 
the increase may be because of their workload, there are more people in australia now say from 5 years ago. more people, more workload, more postalincreases.

Rumour / Truemour....In it's simplest form, the RBA and Australian Mint already have a working group in place that are examining our current coin set and deciding on the new one. Our coins have some of the highest metal count in the world and are overly expensive to mint, transport and process. We will all be looking forward to smaller and lighter coins within two years, announcement on this project will follow the Federal Election. The $0.50c as it stands has to go, too big and hard to process, the $0.05c its life expectancy has not as yet been determined...opinion is divided.....yes it's removal will have an immediate but small impact on inflation.....how about the introduction of a $5.00 coin it's is also being discussed.

do they have an expected time on when this willl be all sorted
 
For the single card, if it fits in the DLE official registered post envelopes, it's still $12.25 These will take a toploader but no padding. What i do is the toploader/team bag combo and then get about 3 A4 pieces of paper and fold them in thirds with the card in the middle before putting in a DL envelope. That envelope fits in the DLE official registered. It's not padding, but it does provide some 'letter like' shaping in the envelope.
 
I actually heard people talking about $5 and $10 coins some ten years ago under the Coalition in 1999/2000.

I couldn't care less either way.

But the cost of post is going up not because there are more people, there are less people using the service (worldwide) but as a business, they need to maintain, if no exceed, current profit margins. Hence all the crap they now sell. The Aust Post shop is a franchise almost like Subway or Macca's.
