Something new for NRL?

Could we get someone to buy a whole lot and then sell it off???

I think the last lot of sets sold originally for around the $2000 to $2500 each set ....That price may be wrong but it was an expensive exercise ....I do know they weren`t very cheap ......

I am sure someone will remember the original price ....

Alot of money...I might wait

To be honest I think there will be such a demand for whatever they bring out that it will have to go to a ballot like it did for the 2003 Scanlans / Select release. The way I read it is that you will have only on 01 Jul 10 to put in say an expression of interest...........I think they will be that limited that the collectors such as you and I will not be able to afford them.

:(

Perhaps we should look at doing a set share, that way us team collectors can get together and ease the cost burden.....

If it is a two player per team release that's 32 cards, then say at $3200 a set then that's only $200 for your team set.....thoughts?

I'd be happy to do the admin work of putting it together.

Cheers

This works in theory however not all cards are worth the same. Example from the previous set - Lockyer, Johns, Fittler VS Willie Peters, Ben Walker, Glen Morrison.
2003 Scanlens/Select are massively underpriced (EBAY auctions) and i dont think they are very popular with most collectors.

They were $2750

I can see why ... they do look cool, but they are virtually just Daily Telegraph cards numbered to 60.

Don't get me wrong, I love my two that I have, but I can definitely see why they aren't going for huge prices.

I hoooope that Select doesn't just rehash the idea and virtually do a series 2 of these. For the amount the first set cost, they could have them all signed, you'd think. Or even make it a 16 cards set and each card have a jersey patch on it.

It's not impossible, the profit margins must have been ginormous on the first lot!!!

Good point and I understand where you are coming from however it is still the only way most of us could collect our team set and given that some may fetch more if you were to sell them they are all worth the same sitting in someones PC.

Or from an alternate angle, whilst some may not be worth the same, none of the 2003 cards are worth less than their original price per card, for example I believe there was 32 so that equals less than $90 each card and even the less popular players sell for much, much more than that, so I can only see win / win.

If we had it up and running before we knew what players that could easily avoid the cherry picking, although good on someone for profitting as long as us PC collectors are also happy.

I imagine then you wouldn't like a Gallen or Snowden or even though your not a Barrett fan even his would surely be a solid investment.

:kick::kick: 1000 posts with this waffle..........

my first year of collecting and they dont release a second series! :( they better release CARDS! not keyrings!

They didn't release a 2nd series when I started collecting either! You should be happy that you have some spare $$$ to buy older cards from years before you were collecting.

Just a big money spinner for Select really. Why bother producing a big set when you can just flog off 400 sets of 33 common cards for $400.

minimum work for max profit, thats Select

id buy the hawks pair if they did it for AFL, not as good as in 03 but better than nothing for all you NRL boys.

i dont get the whole thing over the scanlens cards, there is such a big fuss over them, i personally thing they dont look good, they are just expensive, i would rather spend $400 on a couple of boxes of 2nd series cards from the last few years

The cards look pretty lame I must say ... at least the 2003 ones looked nice and retro styles. Anyone on here could have designed that Farah card ...

The cards became available at 0015 hours 01 Jul 10.............actually went to order a set but they don't accept PAYPAL or direct deposit, looks like credit card only..........:(

Personally I was hoping that everybody would decide to boycott this release. I can't beleive that Select thinks that this is a suitable replacement for the normal Series 2. My god, take a common card and wack a Scanlens logo and a number on it and tell everyone it is worth $400. Not only have they robbed collectors of anything of real value i.e. sig cards of potential stars, but making the release a ready made set they have also stolen the excitement of unwrapping a couple of packs and finding decent cards and also the ownership of doing the hard work to put a complete set together.

Here is a quote from the Select site describing the reason for not releasing the second NRL series:
"there has been an abundancy of NRL Collector series released in the past decade and a temporary hold off of a new release will benefit the collector's market in the long term"
WOW, what a turn around, this release must be a benefit to the collector's market. Maybe it's just a benefit to Select's profits, 400 sets @ $400 ea - $160000, minimum work for max profit.

Yet again Select shows their distain for NRL and its card collectors

It appears to be a 2009 set, with Wendell in there for the Drags and 2009 on the promo pic.
