Im not sure why bumping an old thread was such a bad thing when it contained valid points and information... starting a new thread overlooks the points and comments that have been raised previously which i believe to be valid/useful - hence the reason i was drawn in to reading it in the first place.

Anyway.... I'll start it again. For anyone wishing to read about the initial idea/proposal, it can be found HERE

Basically the idea was to have a function which recognised members and the site in general along with a card show. It was also suggested that there be a game screening as well. Being a newer member i wasnt sure if the initial suggestion ever took off (which is why i asked in that thread) or if anything similar had been tried.... something 'hosted' by OzCardTrader. Would be good for OCT and for the hobby in general.

So... has there been any sort of in person OCT event? If not, how come??? Is this something that could take off?

It's not a bad idea. I just reckon the fact there's a lot of interstate members so it'd be hard to make just one night as a lot couldn't make or have one for each state but then there wouldn't be say an admin from each state. ;)

I guess thats something that would need to be decided based on the support gathered from each state. And thats obviously support in terms of attendence and organisation.

I am all FOR having an Ozcard get together in Sydney areas. I know Sydney already has a couple of events during the year like Premier Collectors Show, Parramatta Collectors Fair etc but it doesn't hurt to have another one specifically on trading cards.

We've had some members organise box breaks afternoons etc off their own bats. Some people meet up at shows, some just invite everyone around to their house and everyone sits around the table - the last one we had in Brisbane that I went to we did a case buy of some product and everyone had some boxes to break.

In regards to a trade day etc, there are no plans for OzCardTrader to run/organise any such days - we are 5 people who run this place, who have jobs/homes/families/hobbies, who run this place in our spare (hah) time. I'm not complaining, it's my choice and I love it. I just don't have the time to commit to extras.

In all honesty, we should probably support the card shows that other people run/arrange as a priority. Without everyones support they will just disappear and then we will be left with no card shows (like we have in Brisbane after the Mt Gravatt one shut up shop).

That being said, if you want to put your hand up to arrange a day/night in your local area, feel free to utilise the site to get some interest and go for it. :) We would support you wherever we can.

really like the idea of this 1. theres MANY MANY obstacles that have to be taken into account, so that 110% understandable why it wont be such a good idea to try and get off the ground. i can imagine people rocking up and it being fairly succesful, but like Graham said bout helping out the CURRENT fairs/markets/card stores otherwise they will be the first to close if business is deferred else where. i think the French (on their forums) have something like this though. and the last one was really big. but thats france, this is australia (dont know how many times its larger by :D). i still am looking forward to going to my first swap meet to primarily meet and greet the great OCT family in person, plus to pcik up some newbies ;) ;). anyway, all the best to whomever sets up something, wishin ya the best , and hopefuly u can have my support with anythin i can help out with . cheers. STEVE :) :) :)

ps. Graeme, just wanted to point out something u said. here:

if u want, it can easily be 6 ;) ;) ;), look no further :D:D:D:wave:. cheers bud

My guess would be - if you are going to suck up to be a mod - get his name right - Graham

Ha ha ha... glad this has gathered some interest!! :D

The reason i managed to find this thread is i was looking for OCT events that have happened. Not ones that have been setup for the purpose of luring in the public, but something where like minded OCT members can come along to, interact with each other IN PERSON (thats right, no hiding behind a computer ) and trade cards like it used to happen before technology came along.

I hear you with the 5 people running the show from the admin side, but sounds like you are happy for people to get together (or individually) and setup other things. Basically like the Cherry Collectables Swap 'n' Sell that took place. Im only throwing ideas out there... And if others are keen on it, then it would be up to them to put their hands up to help me (if in Vic) or to get it going in their area. Im not talking fireworks and stage shows  Just a social get together revolving around cards. If awards for valued members was something that could be incorporated, then great :D (would add another dimension to the social side of things). Certainly not something attracting the masses... size isnt important, its quality ;) Maybe with the support of OCT in the sense that it could be seen as an 'official' OCT gathering perhaps??? I think if its just some random trying to get people to come to his house or a function room at a pub people may not take it as seriously as they would if it was 'official'. Having organised both official and unofficial meets (for a car club) there really is a difference in peoples perceptions even though it could be the EXACT same thing.

I will be starting a thread regarding Prestige for those living in Bendigo, or anyone wanting to travel to Bendigo. I personally would love to get together with everyone locally to bust our boxes and see first hand what we all hit! (PM me if you are keen on this and let me know if Saturdays or Sundays are better).
