Are the 2010 select champions out yet?

Yep. just bought two back from the newsagent.... simply out of curiosity. Here's the goods ...
Not sure how big the base set is but the Holographic-foiled Jersey die-cut set is 195 cards and are inserted at odds of 1 per pack; Impact Signature Gold (64 cards) 1 per 6 packs; Sensation Gold Gem (32 cards) 1 per 12 packs; Superstar Mascot Gem (16 cards) 1 per 24 packs and Phenomenom Gems (8 cards) 1 per 72 packs.
Packaging 8 cards per pack, 36 packs per box with an RRP of $3.
Like i said, i bought two packs at random and pulled two of the Impact signatures gold - Dean Young (st. George) and Lance Hohaia (Warriors). The good thing about these cards is .... the sigs aren't facsimile - they are the real thing and on card. It looks like they've used a narrow-point sharpie for the auto's.

First of all - this is the only actual card product from select for NRL - i wouldn't include the tags as being cards. Secondly, you just have to look at NBA products with auto odds of between 1:1 and 1:14000 depending on the product and player to see that it is possible to have auto's available. Plus, the players have had the last four to five months off - plenty of time to autograph several thousand cards. Thirdly, print machines would print the same autograph perfectly everytime - no smudging, ink-gaps, nothing. There is no smudging on the two i got, but there is definite the fading and ink-gaps you get with a pen. I know the difference between a printed/facsimile auto and an actualy auto.
It might be a reproduction or reprint of the players auto in pen, but I can guarantee that it is NOT an on card auto.
Select have to pay for each and every autograph they get from players for on card autos. I can't see them paying to have 64 players sign however many cards each to insert into a low end $2.99 product. They would be losing money. The NBA is a completely different kettle of fish. There you are talking worldwide interest in their products of players with multi million dollar contracts. Selects release is limited in interest (even within Australia) and difficult to justify the huge expenditure for on card autos.
The only on card autos you will see from Select will be in the Series 2 release (which last year was called Classic) which cost more than $2.99 per pack, is a limited release and autos came 1 per box, not 6 per box.
Even the sell sheet says it :
"64 NRL stars printed signature cards in the set. 4 cards per club."
I don't know what to say, Graham. I'm looking at the two auto's i got in a bright light, and the dean young auto has clear fading on the letter "Y" (the only clearly distinguishable letter in his auto) and the foil "Glisten" doesn't affect the auto - which you would expect if it was "printed". As you said, select has a limited distribution and the players I've picked up aren't exactly - to me at least - known players, let alone star players. I don't know if this true over the entire signature set, but the fact that they aren't known players and that NRL players do not rake in the money that nba players do might explain why the cards are - from my perspective of having quite a few auto's and facsimile autos in my collection - are on card. And I wasn't just talking NBA auto's - throughout the mid-1990's quite a few of the draft pick sets (limited release/interest outside of the 'states) had autographs inserted at rediculously low odds. Some Examples - 1996 Scoreboard Autographed BK Autographs 1:7 (I have the John Wallace from this set and it is on card);1997 Genuine Article Autographs 1:1; 1997 Scoreboard Platinum autographs 1:9 Retail, Silver Autographs 2:9 Hobby/Retail; 1999 SAGE Autographs 1:2, Autographs Bronze 1:4, Autographs silver 1:6; 2000 Sage Autographs 1:2, Autographs Bronze 1:4, Autographs silver 1:6. These are the collegiate/draft picks sets - similar interest by comparison to NRL printed by small companies who still have to pay the athletes for the auto's - wether they make it to the pro's or not. so it can be done - it just comes down to contracts, really. I'm pretty certain that Select has a clause in their contracts with both the NRL and the AFL that allows for a certain amount of Auto's/memorabilia from each team/player up to a certain price - whatever that price maybe. I'm also certain that the respective leagues would be encouraging their players to participate in such things as card signing in order to promote the league. After all, not everyone can get to the grounds to get auto's of players before and after the game.
If I had scanner and the know how to post pics, I'd post my cards and point out the signature faults I mentioned.... but, i'm still something of a technophobe and am a few years behind with certain things.

They are the same as last years cards MASS PRODUCED PRINTED SIGNATURES ....If they were the real thing they wouldn`t be selling for $5 each ...You can believe what you like but the real collectors no they are a mass produced signature ...

As the cards were only printed over the last Month that also shows that the cards are a mass produced signature not personally signed ....The cards are only printed 2 to 3 weeks before release each series .....
