So we didnt get too out of control in the green vs Jones Jr fight thread

i have decided to start a thread up to see what everyones opinions are of Both boxing and M.M.A and which they prefer.

I understand boxing is a world class sport and viewed by millions, but we cant deny the U.F.C's growth in popularity has skyrocketed over the past 4 or 5 years.
I feel M.M.A not only surpasses boxing as a sport, but totally blows it out of the water in terms of action, style, technique, abilities and maneuvers.

M.M.A is more exciting to watch with the use of Take downs, Submissions, Flying Knees and Elbows, and isn't as 1 dimensional as boxing with its boring stand up for 12 rounds.........:lol:

Thats my opinion.

And please base your opinions on your own Judgements and not attack what i have stated as my opinion in the opening post

Look forward to hearing from you guys

Cheers

What the hell is MMA?

I like Boxing...if I was going to watch a fighting sport that is...which I don't often. But I would consider watching boxing while not consider watching any others. Great show of mental toughness and psychology on show.

Ice Hockey is better than UFC and boxing put together, its fast, its rough and theres fights!!!! i class it as a fighting sport...love the game!!!!

As I said in the other thread, they are 2 quite different sports. It's like asking if basketball or AFL is better.

I like watching both, but if I had to pick, I'd rather watch boxing.

I cant see the puck as well :(

I cant watch boxing without thinking rigged fight anymore.

UFC is great but there is a little too much cuddling sometimes :woot:.

The knockouts and techniques are amazing

I agree they are too different to compare.

I love boxing, to the point that is actually my #1 sport. I love its rich history, the upsets, the controversy and basically everything that surrounds it. In recent times it hasn't been a frontline sport, and don't kid yourself into thinking that its because of the UFC, MMA has been around for years. I personally think that a wider range of sports in general are now being enjoyed worldwide so audiences might be shrinking and sticking to their particulars.

I do also enjoy MMA and basically all combat sports, but if i had to pick a favourite i could'nt go past the sweet science that is boxing. I love to watch a technical battle over 36 minutes unfold, where a fighter can seemingly have it in the bag only to be dropped at the last minute by the underdog.. God damn i love that feeling!

As i mentioned previously, i do like MMA aswell, but in much smaller doses. The constant wrestling and what seems to be quite often a lack of conditioning can spoil 70-80% of the fights i have seen (and i have watched UFC 26 through to 102). It definately has its merit though and can be exciting, BUT its a bit much sometimes.. i like just the basic age old tradition of 2 dudes throwing leather at eachother.

I do think MMA is definately rising in popularity, but when you check ppv sales.. a whole calander year of UFC's would be outsold by only 5 big boxing events.

So to me... boxing still owns the world of combat sport.

MMA is not as much of a sport less money in it which I think is about the only thing better about it. I love both but boxing more, the boxers are athletes none of these 3 round bull****, 12 3 min rounds!. There will never be a MMA fighter like ALI or sugar shane or tyson. MMA has obisly not been around as long. This might count for the fact that there will never be anyone like ali. I like both but I think boxing is more of a sport.
Its more entertaining to watch and its more tactical. MMA is more of a fight lets get it on sometimes to brutal for my liking but also super athletes that can take a pounding. Keep fighting with broken arms. More like gladiators, boxing is more like finess, like ali float like a butter fly sting like a bee your hands cant hit what your eyes cant see.

nah UFC sucks at time. Thing that annoys me about it is the submissions. A lot of times you will see them on the ground wrapped around each other for minutes on end.

Otherwise I would like it a alot as I agree the techniques are the thngs that I like to see. I am not saying remove submissions all together, but restructure the rules slightly so they don't end up on the floor for too long wrapped in a knot.

MMA wins hands down for me. Two fighters in a cage using all the weapons the body has to offer to win a fight, hands, elbows, legs and knee's and as Payney85 stated aswell there are take downs, Submissions and my fav the ground and pound.

I do watch boxing when MMA isn't on foxtel and respect any person that gets into a ring/cage to fight it out, but MMA just hits that spot I have deep down inside.

Yeah nrl for sure
ufc is good but soo boring when they just stay on ground

anyone who says Nrl is more exciting than Ufc, Afl, Ice hockey hell even test cricket cant be serious. What a joke lmfao the only sport less exciting than league is soccer

lol cricket exciting?!?!?
NRL is more entertaining than AFL too, AFL's just a bunch of fairys poncing around trying not to get caught with the ball

As for the original question, I like both equally. imo MMA is good to watch when you want to see some straight up arse kicking & beat downs and boxing when your in the mood to see some skill.

If you look back at my last post Verse 1 sumed it up in short maybe I ramble to much but thats a great perspective that verse 1 has taken on the Original question.
