Green v Jones Jnr!

yeah

Boxing sucks sooooo bad, especially when u see fights that are that hyped up, only to finish in the 1st round??

Whoever paid to watch the fight wasted some good money hey........

UFC for life

lol dude it happens in UFC to...and dont take it the wrong way i much prefer UFC to boxing as well

Honestly...

Boxing isn't even in the same league as MMA anymore..... Boxing might have a few rare good fights but you see so many better fights in UFC/MMA.
We also get to see a broad range of fighting styles which lead to fabulous looking Knockouts and submissions, not just Using hands/ punching combos to knockout someone out.
MMA is alot more exciting to watch as well compared to Boxing

Good on Green for Winning

Aussies Rule

Now Sotiropoulos will have to challenge for the title in UFC :) :) :)

In your opinion boxing isn't even in the same league as MMA anymore, many would strongly disagree.

Boxing isn't all about knocking someone out, boxing fans can appriciate a tactical battle within a fight without someone having to be unconsious at the end. Many great fights throught history haven't ended in a knockout

I agree, i enjoy both, but definately a purist at heart and love the science of boxing

I am absolutely 100% sure there are people who disagree with me, not denying that at all
But its the same in U.F.C/ MMA, with Tactical battles and going the distance etc.

No point comparing apples with oranges boys. I enjoy watching both, but they are 2 quite different sports.

I would rather the Green/Jones fight got to at least the 5th round, but in the end I am a big fan of Green and it is awesome that he dominated a legend of the sport.

Just heard a radio interview green did this morning, lol, he called mundine, sorry mundane, a "piss ant" and called out hopkins

But very keen to go on and fight in america again

Leaving his options open i guess potting both of 'em

"Mundane"? Funny how Mundine cops it for taking on journeymen who are at least CURRENT boxers for the most part, but when Green basicly picks on a pensioner, he "destroyed a legend of the sport"? Its gone from everyone talking in the media about RJJ being on the wrong side of 40, to "OMG, OMG!!! Green got a TKO against Roy Jones Jr, one of the greatest P4P fighters to ever live!" So if some up-and-coming shooting guard put 50 on MJ tomorrow, that'd be remarkable somehow? I realise theres no way to put prime RJJ against prime Green, but let's not act like it happened, either.

agreed..... :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

man im still in shock about this fight. even danny green was probably doubting himself at the start :lol:. all the people that paid for the pay-per-view would've felt short-changed in some ways after half way of the first round the fight ended . i would've wanted to see atleast 6 rounds, that wouldve been a better viewing experience. knock him in in the 6th round Green, not in the first :lol:. good on him but, betcha no1 will ever doubt him again, just dont know why he cant put up a performance like that against Mundine.

? So what would you say Roy Jones was. Regardless of what happened last night, Jones is still a lethal boxer !

As for being over the hill, George foreman won the heavyweight title alot older than 40 !!! Roy Jones did not come to australia with the idea of losing so not sure what you are saying TBH

IN SHOCK 110% and sure Danny Green is still spinning about it. You could see he was kind of shocked when he first put Jones on the canvas

The Green corner knew that to win a knockout had to be in the first 5 rounds

I bet Danny is kicking himself over taking that fight with Mundine ! Dropping a weight class left him with Nothing in the tank and he also had a dodgy right hand (his biggest weapon as shown last night)

Let's see if Mundine is willing to step up a class if he dares

Look at Jones's recent career: He's had 2 other fights in 2009, both against guys I've never heard of, and most casual fans wouldn't have heard of, he got slapped around by Joe Calzaghe in late 2008, and befor that had roughly 1 fight a year for five years. As I said, RJJ WAS a dominant fighter in his PRIME, and if Green had of somehow fought and beaten him THEN, I'd think it was one of the great victories by an Australian boxer, even though I'm not particularly fond of him. But c'mon, who's Green going to fight next, Roy Jones Snr??? As for Jones not coming down here for a loss, the Nets didn't turn up for any of their 18 losses so far with the idea of losing either. How's that working out for them? And yes, I'm sure there are plenty of people who have been successful at what they do past their prime. But it still doesn't mean the same as beating that person in their prime, or even NEAR it...

I am not convinced that it was a great performance, RJJ didnt really fight and went down wayyyy to quickly. Green needed this for his career RJJ was on holidays and got paid - definitely not the greatest Australian victory, but a real test will be if Green fights a real contender, i dont he will cope with anyone who has fast hand speed.

ROFL!!! Just read this article on ninemsn about the aftermath of the Green/Jones Jr fight. Straight out of Green's mouth: "When you beat a legend, you become a legend. He's (Mundine) busy taking on chumps and baby's, while I'm taking on the best in the world." Yeah, Mundine SURE could learn something about humility from this man...

Maybe he can line up a fight with Ali now, become the greatest heavyweight in the world when he knocks Ali out, too...

im not a green fan by any stretch of the imagination, but Australian boxing hasnt had much to celebrate in recent years, so i understand why its getting blown out of preportion like it is.

As for mundine.. he lost my respect when he burnt the union jack many moons ago. Even as a boxer he has never really beaten anyone of note and was knocked out cold by the lightest punching smw champion of all time.. talk about embarassing.

I feel bad for fighters like Vic Darchinyan and Michael Katsidis who have been taking tough fights for pennies overseas. Vic Darchinyan unified a weight divison no more then a year ago and it didnt even get a breathe of air over here... pretty sad.

Darchinyan I enjoy watching when I can, Katsidis gets no love from me till his brother stops running favourites dead...

I'm still spewing I paid $50 for a 2 minute fight (lol)

Nah seriously, I am a bit disappointed it lasted only 1 round but there were some great undercard fights so not a total waste of $$$

dont worry, i paid that when pacman desimated hatton in 2 rounds.

Im just happy to see a boxing thread with so many replies!

Yeah, that was another "Blink and you missed it"... I was actually thinking of ordering both fights, backed out both times, luckily... I'll be getting Pacman/PBF for sure, though! Hell, even if it only lasts 2 rounds that one'll be worth it! =D>
