BREAKING NEWS! UD & Topps Out:Panini offically In!

I think this will be good for the hobby. Bring back the great insert sets from the early to mid nineties!!!

How would they produce cards with no NBA logo's that means no jerseys or anything NBA licensed. It would look ****. Depending on what will happen with the current products, I wouldn't be buying any Panini, I only bought Upper Deck Boxes.

Something happened with Donruss losing either the MLB or NFL contract, and they could only use players that weren't active, can anyone provide more info on this subject?

Cheers

They just photoshop off the nba logo on the jerseys, has been done before, in 04-05, think it was press pass, they released a carmelo anthony auto, in his nugs uni, all they did was remove the nba logo from his uniform. They can also just produce the cards with the players in their college uniforms.

Holy Sh!t!!! Thats a bit full on, I really just hope it shakes things up and we see some more inventive designs and so on. Must admit I was fairly sick of the ol' same sh!t different day approach both UD and Topps took.

There was a good article about this topic (re. Donruss and Press Pass not having licences for Baseball and Basketball respectively) in a Beckett Monthly magazine from late last year...

We may see the end of sticker autos!!!!!!

I think it is more likely that we will see an sticker on sticker auto! I wonder if direct on sticker autos would then attract a premium!

This is big, but needed to happen. 110% agree with Chad...I look forward to being able to walk into a newsagent and buy a pack of $2.50 cards or stickers for my 4 y.o...rather than $500 packs that he can only handle in a protector with cotton gloves.

This will be good for the hobby, but the interesting thing will be (as others have mentioned) what effect this will have on the existing market prices.

Hmmm....

we can only hope!

so we may see no more kobe/mj/bron autos if a contract transfer isn't done! Time to buy up peoples!

It's not like ud is closing, I guarantee they'll still do memorabilia etc in basketball, just not NBA cards .

Rare MJ auto's will be in huge demand since HOF year - they will go up now.But the site of not seeing any new Jordan cards to collect beyond 09 would be hard to swallow.

Don't the NBA own the copyright to the Team Names and Logo's Also? Therefore they can't be on there either? So they would just be plain jersey with just the number and no mention of the team name on the card. Also doesn't that mean they couldn't use Game used jersey because that too means NBA copyright. Doesn't look to good in my opinion.:(

Why would Jordan autos go up based on him being inducted to the HOF?? Who here couldn't see that coming and how does it increase his popularity??

On court and off court mean less than just plain popularity in this hobby.

And who here thinks spending thousands of dollars on UDA is the same and is relevant to the majority of people here and in the hobby? Before you could take the punt on a $10 pack and pull a Jordan auto.

your right, there was no team name either on the jersey.

sounds good to me, im more into collecting my favourite players/teams, i dont necessarily get huge thrills over a low # card..............

but since i also like a nice card design, im interested in what panini will bring, for example i thought this years spx was an awesome design, but will panini have a basic card design similar to the standard upper deck cards? or will they have multi layered products from low end to high end?
