2009 select releases POST YOUR THOUGHTS

Re: 2009 select releases

I also think that Select should bring out a lesser pack product like 8 packs and not the normal 36 and make it like 1 auto and 2 game used per box and make the boxes like $70 Kind of Like 06-07 Fleer eX basketball. that would be ideal IMO.

Sensational idea, now we just need to convince someone at select

Re: 2009 select releases

the same ole boring type of cards is one reason i NEVER go for a complete set featuring every card, I will however do the base set in the album BUT no more...........cards are too predictable and boring...........but really what can we do, i have emailed and called select to voice my opinion and i get the standard line that select thanks you for your input and values your opinion..........blah, blah, blah............

Re: 2009 select releases

if you are going to send a link of this to Select, send a link to Upper Deck as well and tell em we have a fantastic "investment" opportunity for them......

Re: 2009 select releases

I couldn't agree more guys, Select are way off the pace. I haven't even bothered with the 08/09 cricket set - and honestly, what is the fascination with sketch cards? Where did they get the crap idea from? To think the ultimate chase card at 1:1800 packs is a redemption card for an oversized sketch set - WHO CARES????

Both footy and cricket need more high-end inserts, so that rare actually means RARE. You can see from the value of inserts from this years cricket is so cheap - why on earth would you buy a box of it??? Just scoop them off ebay instead. This shouldn't be the way to collect cards.

While people whinge about the shortcomings of Futera, at least by the end of production their 96/97 Decider series was both interesting and challenging to try to get the full set of inserts. While the "First Day Issue" vs "Regular" idea upset a lot of people at the time it did at least make you work hard for your collection. Even today there would be very few people who were able to put together a full set, and surely all we are asking for is a challenge and to be able to buy a box and be genuinely excited at what it might contain.

If Select threw in a super-rare subset of 16 redemption sig or game worn cards (1 for each club) of only 25 or 50 cards how many more boxes would we be tempted to buy?? The thrill of the chase would be back again! Similar to how hard the Brownlow predictor set was...did anyone manage to complete that subset?

And here's another idea Select can use from Futera - number ALL of the inserts. It does make it more interesting to see what number you get.

Re: 2009 select releases

numbering all the inserts is something ive thought about before, i love the old futera and numbered inserts make it that little bit more exciting. select should do this for sure bjs127.

Re: 2009 select releases

i liked the 1st day issue idea.

They could make the first wave of inserts, box releases more limited and fancier and maybe have a limited auto edition of a subset like footy did with some subsets.

The impact card was another good chase to get a sequentially same number set. I remember i got really close to completing a bat 2 ball set on my own with all the same numbers, think i needed 4 more.

Re: 2009 select releases

Hi everyone:)
Select are the most brain dead card company. When they released the 2008 champions i was most dissappionted that they never came up with any new ideas they cant even come up with a new name and to see that they are calling there 2009 series champions again is an absolute joke what are they thinking will be staying away from 2009 series and concentrate on my older cards instead maybe slow sales of this product might encourage them to come up with some new ideas so vioce your opinion by not buying them like i am going to do. SELECT YOU S__K.
spottyroach.

Re: 2009 select releases

tbh im not overly fussed, im still going to collect the series and add some various Kangaroos cards to my collection.

Re: 2009 select releases

I am so bloody jealous of the nba collectors. There cards look amazing, but what do league collectors get every year, foil sigs, sketches and gems (The worst looking cards ever made) for series 1 and club player, team of year and medal card insert sets, 1futureforce/top prospect per box and a couple of sig redemptions per case for series 2.

Ive busted that many league boxes and never hit any redemptions because it so easy for dealers to get the case hit then sell the rest of the boxes.

I wish upper deck or somebody would move to australia and release league cards. we want game used, dual autos. 1/1's, 1/25's, 1/50's. something, anything then the same crap every year.

Who works in there design department? What are they thinking? Do they really look at each other and say, "I've got it... lets release the exact same set as we did last year, but change the players around a bit". Please..I think they need to be petitioned/harassed, something.

Agreed!
That's why some of us (last Year) decided to do a Case Share, you get a whole case in and then get 12 people to buy the boxes from the Case, that way someone involved in the Case share WILL get the Auto Redemption!

I hope to organise or participate in another AFL case Share this year :)

As far as Jersey & Patch cards in Australian Sports.........they (Select) did do it one year and I liked them. The Jersey cards STILL sell for $100AU+ and that is because Select haven't FLOODED the market like all the NBA Card Companies. I like that they have not just copied the US card companies but yeah I would like a little more variety.........I mean the same sketch & gold foil Signature Cards (again) is not going to excite anyone!

Like many here, I won't buy any boxes of Series I, I'll just grab the cards I want of the bay as they are all selling so cheap now. I think the reason they are selling so cheap is because people are over them and want something new and innovative.........I don't want a Jersey Card Insert every year (as they would become just like they have in the NBA cards) but I think it's time for another one.........it's been 6 years!

Re: 2009 select releases

oh please do a case share. hopefully we can get a case share for the first set of 09 releases as well as the 2nd as im hoping to get a box or two of each.

Re: 2009 select releases

A case share would be great! i would be interested in a box from the second series if they are decent :)

Re: 2009 select releases

Hey Select are you listening we are your critics... Here is a suggestion for the next series you bring out.. Holofoils are 2 sided maybe you should take a page out of the scanlen book and put a 12-piece puzzle team photo on the back of your cards. we will have something to frame. keep it australian even if a kiwi has to remind you fella's.

Cheers

Select are you hiring?

Re: 2009 select releases

no dont please whatever you do select dont bring the awful looking cards with the crap on the back again. They look crap, i hate how people have to compare the select stuff to the NBA Stuff. Theres no need.

Re: 2009 select releases

Who ever looks at the back of a holofoil card its just the team logo its just wasted opportunity if you ask me.

Re: 2009 select releases

well said boys. keep those comments comming, pleased this thread has taken off!
the link will deffinately be sent to Select when it gets a bit bigger

CMON, let people know about this thread. only 20 users have replied! Im sure theres more than 20 people on this forum who collect AFL, NRL, soccer and cricket!

ive bought at least 1-2 boxes each year the new footy cards come out, i wont bother this year. the same old stuff, come on select wake up.
Like mentioned in previous posts bring back some game used cards, numbered parallels or even patch cards, imagine a patch/au of judd or ablett.

if everyone here who has said the not buying a box actually doesn't and they might just buy the cards they want off eBay or buy the odd pack. I'm sure select will notice that box sales will be slower and there for they might wake up! and with threads like this... they must change it around in 2010
