Re: 2009 select releases

i stopped with australian sport years ago due to the card manufacturers respect of the consumer, Dynamic were the worst by far especially with league...Futura were pretty good but select is IMO worse than Dynamic. I buy packs every now and then but its all boring. Bring back the Allan Border Hologram type cards and the Auto exchange cards and when the hell will they bring in game used? grrrr i hate australian sports card manufacturers. I might change my mind if they bring out a David Gillespie Auto!

Re: 2009 select releases

Are you serious? Same old same old. Great one Select. I was still considering whether or not i would be collecting the whole set in 2009. By the looks of this i think ill go for only the Penrith cards. Also im dissapointed that they are making another figurine series. I was under the impression that the figurines (for NRL at least) were only out for the
100th year of league. I wouldnt be suprised if select made the exact same players next year. It just seems like something select would do, as they just make the same thing over and over each year. After collecting cards, Tazos and figurines im pretty sure that as years go on they wont get any better :( :( :( sadly enough. Select is simply becoming boring with their products, same old thing all the time. As a card collector i think ill just keep on track with the penrith cards only and not worry about whole sets anymore. It will be better value to me i think because im personally sick of using so much money on the same old stuff.

Re: 2009 select releases

Unfortunately I cant leave aussie sports.

2006 champons had Die cut guernseys, those flicker cards where you tilt it and a new image apears. That was the better series

Re: 2009 select releases

i guess we will have to wait and see what happens but just by the sounds of sketches, gems and foil signatures....it doesnt sound like a different set at all. More like a 2007/2008 set that they have changed the year on. Dissapointed collector select :( :( :(

Re: 2009 select releases

Figurines have potential but i doubt Select would do anything like this. There should be different colours/parallels. Gold numbered to 1200 is a start, with a few more colours they could do these /500, /100 and dare i say it 1/1s.
The cards seem like a lost cause, i have said this before.......series 1 is the cheaper set, so whatever. But please make series 2 more collectable, i wouldnt even care if they were $10 a pack........as long as they got it right.

Re: 2009 select releases

Yep, its easier and cheaper to pick up the team sets etc of the bay, I am lucky as there is a lady here in Portland who busts about 5 cases of each series every year, local pick up, no postage costs, and just collect my team now, don't worry about trying to complete a full set any more, so probably SILVER foil sigs this year:lol:

Re: 2009 select releases

I am so bloody jealous of the nba collectors. There cards look amazing, but what do league collectors get every year, foil sigs, sketches and gems (The worst looking cards ever made) for series 1 and club player, team of year and medal card insert sets, 1futureforce/top prospect per box and a couple of sig redemptions per case for series 2.

Ive busted that many league boxes and never hit any redemptions because it so easy for dealers to get the case hit then sell the rest of the boxes.

I wish upper deck or somebody would move to australia and release league cards. we want game used, dual autos. 1/1's, 1/25's, 1/50's. something, anything then the same crap every year.

Who works in there design department? What are they thinking? Do they really look at each other and say, "I've got it... lets release the exact same set as we did last year, but change the players around a bit". Please..I think they need to be petitioned/harassed, something.

Exactly mate! I wanna see patches, jerseys and MORE numbered cards! I am sick of the same old NRL Champions with sketches and gems and foil sigs.
I am hoping there 2nd series is a very good one because they haven't impressed me with the 1st series.

BTW Imagine how good NRL and AFL Exquisite would be!:)

Re: 2009 select releases

Easier said than done. Wait until this thread gets at least 5 pages deep and then send them a link hopeing they start to get a hint. Surely they already get consumer feedback at some point.

I'm very disapointed that it is going to be the same insert sets all over again. I did appreciate the Foil Sigs, sketches and gems but for one year only. Keep moving forward Select, it's getting a bit stagnant!

Re: 2009 select releases

they have the market tied up so they put no effort into the products anymore. I really liked their early cricket releases, a few different autos from current players in Aus & Domestic cricket and the some of the older legend players (what i miss the most) and a few decent subsets.

There are so many things they could exploit to make a really stunning product but atm i think its just

make something as cheap as possible
charge a decent price
and
hope collectors will put up with it and maybe rake in the $$.

i was going to buy some boxes this year but had a look at the stuff and though nope, i will start to pickup bits and peices eventually but got no interest atm.

Re: 2009 select releases

was saving some coin to buy 2 boxes of series 1 on its release, but only if they changed their style. looks like i'll just get the hawks master set off ebay and thats about it. might buy the odd pack or two from the shop near my place but surely they could do something new this year. series 1 needs a major facelift.

first select stuffed the 08/09 cricket and now the same old boring inserts for series 1 of the afl, very disappointing. i just wish there was someone else having a real go at the afl cards, select really need competition here or they will never push themselves to produce a better product.

as others have said, they need to take a long hard look at the NBA guys in the states. one sig and one guernsey card per box, do that in the AFL and it would be a best seller. and not just 3 players in the guernsey cards like other years, have say one or two players from each team. as foldee said, id be happy to pay upto $10 a pack if they got it right and had some decent inserts.

its all good to look after the kids by bringing out a cheaper set but come on, 3 years in a row with the same ideas, get a clue select.

Re: 2009 select releases

I also think that Select should bring out a lesser pack product like 8 packs and not the normal 36 and make it like 1 auto and 2 game used per box and make the boxes like $70 Kind of Like 06-07 Fleer eX basketball. that would be ideal IMO.

Re: 2009 select releases

Agree to everything said in this thread! (i have already made my point earlier in the thread - i thought this would become pages long by now) I was considering buying boxes next year but i dont think i will now. Its basically like spending money on the exact same set over and over again...but some of the players are in different teams.
Would love to see some decent cards like those made for NBA in the NRL series...but i highly doubt this will happen
