PSA vs Beckett

You are looking at the numbers and not the meaning of the individual companies grades.
PSA 10 = Gem Mint
BGS 9.5 = Gem Mint
BGS 10 = Pristine
PSA do not have a pristine grade. If you can tell the difference between a BGS 9.5 and a BGS 10 you are doing pretty well. I have seen two of the same cards - one BGS 9.5 and one BGS 10 and I cannot tell the difference under magnification. Part of me thinks its the **** value, but hey that's me.
I have submitted a number of BGS cards cracked out of their cases to PSA. I have had BGS 9's come back PSA 9. I have had BGS 9.5 come back PSA 9. I have also had a BGS 9.5 come back a PSA 10, but I have also had a BGS 9 come back a PSA 8. I have submitted to both grading companies, and settled on PSA purely because I believe they are more consistent with their grades. I can pretty much tell what grade cards are going to come back from PSA with - when submitting to BGS it was pot luck. Not saying PSA are perfect - they aren't. Just that they seem to get it right more often.
Also don't forget to ask Chad about his Larry Bird Auto he sent to BGS

How can you justify that opinion when you haven't cracked PSA & sent them into BGS!?

I don't think that doing that would achieve anything, it doesn't provide any more information. Cracking from one to send to the other will be enough to tell you if BSG or PSA are inconsistent...but this method will not tell you which. The fact that hill33 can better predict the grade before sending to PSA but not to BGS is all the justification needed for his opinion that PSA are more consistent.
I have to ask you hill33...what sort of setup do you have there for examining cards? A nice microscope, or like a jewellers magnifier or something? Maybe I'll get some of my next cards put through a scanning electron microscope at work before sending them in!
You hardly see BGS 10's compared to psa 10's simply because of the amount of cards psa grade compared to BGS. PSA grade thousands and thousands of more cards than BGS.
And BGS have an agenda and rep for it. If you limit the number of 10's you give its a good way to give a false reasoning that your company is a tough grader.
BGS are crap and are best for modern card collectors looking to flip and profit from cards selling to other modern collectors. And basketball only too. BGS don't get in the door with most other sports in the hobby. Baseball the main sport would be about 90% psa and 5%BGS/5% SGC and there we are talking a hobby 50X our basketball one with many more years of cards to collect that actually hold value.

i've always wondered about PSA and Beckett...didnt PSA start the grading trend....i think beckett have got too many different sorts of grades and grading types (BCCG as hobbibox pionted out), it love to get my hands on a BGS 10 crack and re send it back to them to see if they re slab it a 10

There is no way in hell that I would ever get a choice card graded after what I saw BGS do to Chad's rare Bird Auto. I can't even remember whether they compensated him but I know it was truly sick. They even graded it and encased it AFTER they bent the damn thing in half!
I also remember there used to be a ton of card trimmers operating who were obviously in cahoots with the graders. These guys on eBay would have Pristine 10's and 9.5s for all the high end stuff, seemingly on a conveyer belt. A couple of people bought some cheaper stuff of them and cracked open the casings, compared the cards, and surprise suprise, short dick man.

Ive got a BCCG 10 mint or better and the corners and edges are worn how can the give this grade a 10? I think if it was in the BGS holder it would be a 8. I know BCCG is a quick guess of a card condition but they do have BCCG 1 to 9 why do they say 10 mint or better is a 10 really a 8 BGS grading? thanks
But I perfer BGS for things after 1980s and before 1980s I would go with PSA because of better vintage grading but I still would pick up a high grading PSA 1980s cards, I also like how BGS protects their modern expensive cards these day too.
