when do you take it out of the folder and into a harder case?

Haven't had a folder for quite a while. I recently scored one from a garage sale though so I decided to go for the 93-94 UD S2 set to fill it up. The last time I had one would have been like 96?
I think it's good to keep everything thing in soft sleeves from the beginning. But I probably personally wouldn't keep GU/Patch cards in a folder. There can be thickness issues there anyway and they would be more prone to damage if not careful.

I never use folders.... I used to when i collected massive base set products. But now i keep everything in semi rigid or screwies.... Putting any card in folders damages the cards, if you are not worried about that that's cool. But in todays market condition is everything.... Even my $20 are in rigids... Only my opinion though :v:

Well I would have had the whole 96/97 Autographics set in a folder had I not bought a graded Nash! If I get some form of wall display for that set when it's complete, I might revise though.
As for other things, only got various sets in folders. All Exquisites (even Payton BV$60) are in Magnetics (just cause they look better that way) and like Chad said, don't really care about value.

Uhhh I think I'll leave it. Thos ecards are incredibly sensitive, so much so that people have only tried grading 8 Nash's with 2x9, 3x8.5 and 3x8. To know this is 8 and never getting worse is awesome to me
(particularly since it's a $350 card ungraded and sells for $100 premium on that)

My Barkley PC is still in the folder, they're mainly mid 90s stuff, so they're not all that expensive, and I'm not going to waste holders on them, especially now I'm trying to move them.
When I first got back into collecting, everything was in 9-pocket pages, I even managed to get a Trilogy Auto Focus onto them!
Now, all my Harris PC, even base are either in Top Loaders, or one-touch magnetic holders.
The way I look at it, if you're going to treasure your collection for a long long time, why not treat them right, and stick them all in holders of some sort!

I've run out of magnetics for my Exquisite base, so they're going in snap cases (except more valuable base)
I like to store as much as possible in magnetics, with the thinner valuable and set collection cards going in toploaders (although some go in the thin magnetics too).
