Gold's do look very sweet
fastbaja5b - Well, I gotta be honest. I get this question ssooooooooo many times it isn't funny. I'm not sure if other collectors out there get questioned as often as me on why I collect a certain player. If it isn't "Why sene?" it's "Why Carie?"
I guess every collector is different in why they do what they do, and all I think back too is many years ago "Why Luol Deng?". It's just something I see in the player, and I like to collect him because of that. Being a Shaq collector all my life, I have always been looking for another big man that I would like to collect. But year in and year out, the league gets flooded with these guards that are all full of "look at me" material. When I stumbled across Sene, I saw a guy whom could darn well block a few shots and was pretty agile. So, I read up into him and watched a few reels, and the bonus was, I found out I was the only guy whom collected him. This gave me a different view of a PC collector, as when you collect Shaq, you can't pick up the same cards I do of Sene for him. I would never pick up a triple auto of him serialled to #5. I would never pick up a Superfractor of him. My past maildays consisted of 1 card, which would cost a pakcet, as the other 3 big Shaq collectors would fight for the same cards I would want. And between you and me, I know I would rather have several sweet looking cards, than 1 high priced pick up.
Now, Durant has hit the scene. All this has brought back a lot more renewed joy in my collecting of a player. And I am having a heap of fun.
Unlike some collectors I have seen out there, I collect whom I "genuinely" like to follow. This is why I ultimately collect Sene.
Whether a guy starts, comes of the bench for 5 minutes, I will always collect whom I like for whatever reason that maybe. I won't pick up a heap of cards, but I will always pick up an auto'ed game used of that player.
The killer for Sene is, I'm glad he didn't get much game time yet. Thats right. He isn't fully ready yet and needs to develop his game. The guy never picked up a basketball till after the age of 16. I can only imagine how much he can improve with more practice and up skilling. And how long have these other rookies been playing ball? And even despite this, the guy made top 10 pick. What does this say about the other rookies?
In the end, Sene will create more interest in the NBA for me, and having picked Durant for ROY it has made me really excited to watch what happens to Seattle this year.
I think I have seen the card you mention on beckett, i'll check it out again, but the prices are always pretty steep on there.
