State of the Hobby

I DON'T CARE

Topps Chrome MLB have released the odds for the upcoming release.

Reduced autos and a "Breakers Delight" box that only goes to breakers.

The shenanigans of these loaded boxes will be something to behold, and a glimpse into the fanatics future for NBA (even beyond Choice products)

Fanatics will do the hobby no favours imo. Thankfully Upper Deck are still holding the NHL licence.

Fanatics overpaid for the licenses as they acquired them during the boom. They are going to get that money back anyway they can. I hope they leave Bowman products alone but even if they do they will dilute them even more.

I suspect they will do this to many of their products: they will put life changing hits in there and hype/promote it to the moon but overall the ROI will continue to fall and you will get less bang for your buck then you do now. Breaking may eventually fall under some type of gambling legislation but that's ok because they will control all aspects of breaking and can promote it as high stakes gambling.

I saw a video from SCR recently where Fanatics was starting to lay out some of the ground rules for hobby shops. It will be interesting to see what happens in the breaking space but Fanatics will be calling the shots with regards to their products.

This is clear with Cherry. They've expanded the hours and fitted the places out to conform to standards. Their Topps allocation is severed though. They take ages to get Topps stuff and barely sell it anymore.

Interesting. I know there is a lag between when a product gets broken and when it is available for sale. I have yet to see 2023 Bowman for sale and they were breaking that 4 weeks ago. I haven't seen any broken since then. And definitely not up for sale. Same with Topps Series 2. Hasn't yet been put up for sale. I'm not sure why they would be struggling to get Topps products, though.

I didn't buy from them for 4 years( mostly BO and SCC) but I have bought a fair bit of wax from them in the last 12 months as they've had what I like and the prices are slightly better with the weak OZ dollar and postage costs. Also, It's easy to just buy one or two boxes at a time whereas buying from the US you have to spend a fair bit as you're up for $50USD postage at a minimum so why not add another 5 boxes and make the postage $80.

I'll be bummed if Cherry don't get allocated a good amount of licensed baseball products. That box of Elite Extra Edition that I bought recently is the first non-licensed product I have bought for a very long time. It's also the reason I don't go in the Derby or Sluggerz breaks anymore as you never know how much junk Panini baseball will be in there.

Maybe you can give me another tutorial on SMC

Did you buy all their MLB wax, lol? I just looked and there is nothing in the way of 2022 Bowman Draft other than the Asia exclusive.

Only hobby boxes of 2022 Bowman which even with the 20% discount is more expensive than it was 2 weeks ago No HTA.

There is 2022 Bowman Chrome but that is shaping up as an underwhelming product( at this point) and they must have got a ton of it in because they had a case for sale a while back which is very unusual. I hope they get more Bowman stock in because it's the leanest I've seen it in 12 months.

You did well grabbing the super while it was available.

It was $800 normal priced around the hobby hangout and i didn't pull the trigger. I was waiting for a 20% off then! Imagine supers for $640 ;)

Either way, the state of the hobby isn't good here ;D
