Rate the last movie you watched

hellraiser (2022) - 7/10. horror is my fave genre, but surprisingly, i never got into the hellraiser series. dont think ive ever seen the entire OG movie, so went into this pretty fresh, and it was pretty good. some weird, inter-dimensional S&M aliens, promise people great power/knowledge etc, but really only give out pain and torture. from what i remember its the same general premise, just a different story.

sissy - 5/10. aussie horror about an influencer who gets invited to a hen's night and gets 'triggered' and starts killing people off. dont know how i got through the whole thing, because the characters were awful, the CGI was pathetic and the story...well i guess thats why i stuck it out maybe?

my best friends exorcism - 7/10. in the 80s a group of high school girls go to the woods and one comes back possessed. cant quite put my finger on what this movie was trying to do, but i think it worked? its a comedy, but also a subtle spoof possibly?
 
KING RICHARD (netflix) the story of Venus and Serena William's ( easily the greatest female athletes ever) father comes to the screen.
Well done and interesting story line. Learning that Venus signed with Reebok for $12 million at just 15 years old was mind blowing -- 7/10*

Props to Will Smith (stupid slapping incident aside ) he is a fantastic actor, and is great in this flick.

Gonna go out on a limb and say there’s likely more eostrogen in Will Smith than the Williams’ sisters combined.
Jokes aside Will is a great actor, loved him in IRobot, Bad Boys and especially Enemy of the State.

Re-release of the movie at the cinemas in 3D as a build up for the new one, could not say no to that opportunity.
True classic movie, which was even better in 3D, coupled with the fact there were only 6 people total in the cinema, greatly enhanced my enjoyment.
Once again, very surprised how low the rating is on IMDB.

Top Gun: Maverick - 8.5/10

Not a fan of Tom Cruise but he is the consummate acting professional.
The fact he is in a movie has held me back from watching so many.
This is a cracker and the follow up to the original that it deserved.
Comes across as a bit of an advert for the US of A and their armed services but that is to be expected.
Really enjoyed this.

amsterdam - 7/10. not a bad little murder/mystery/conspiracy flick. 15 years after WWI friends try to solve the death of their former captain, which leads them to a massive conspiracy. i have promoted christian bale to 'great actor'. he was the highlight of the cast in this.

halloween ends - 3/10. this. was. terrible. i dont know what they were trying to do exactly, but theyve just confused everything. michael somehow passes his evil onto some kid (who he lets live because he sees into his mind (seriously!) and realises something about him). it also seemed like maybe michael gets stronger/healthier as he kills now? but the kid is just a regular weak human. but jamie lee recognises the 'michael' in him? the whole thing was just ridiculous. the romance plot was pathetic. no chmistry what-so-ever and was just forced. laurie was so annoying i just wanted her to die...which is one of the very few ways they couldve made this movie a tad better than total sh!t.
and they actually kill michael (dont think thats a spoiler?), but the whole thing is retarded, because if he can survive all the sh!t from the first 15 movies, then this wasnt a special enough kill. i really hated this movie...i guess the demise started with the last installment, which bastarized the story in prep for this which absolutely destroyed it.

clerks III - 5/10. kevin smith has always been a kinda dodgy director imo, and this cements that position. randall has a heart attack and afterwards wants to make a movie about the store. has some funny moments (like J&SB having a despensary in the store next door, but still make people come outside and buy weed like it was illegal). but overall just doesnt work as a film.
one of my complaints about smith, is even in his 2 good comedies (dogma and clerks...maybe mallrats i guess), the dialogue and acting is always real bad. some directors get the most of their actors, smith somehow gets less than normal from his. altho i will say his serious movie 'red state' was an actual good movie. maybe he should ditch comedy?

I heard it's disappointing earlier this week...oh well, still gonna check it out.

Well, you were correct, with your accurate review.
The start was very... lets go Halloween!
Yet, it didn't take long until starting the slow decent into average movie territory
the romance story was painfully annoying, along with the story line.
These films should not be so difficult, lots off gore and brutal kills are what people buy tickets to see... were not making Citizen Kane here
The franchise deserves better .... very average 4/10*
 
Halloween ends: i think if this was a stand alone horror flick it wouldnt have been too much of a disaster but with the history of the franchise it didnt really offer too much

That said.. it also didnt have a whole lot of horror… 🤷‍♂️

rosaline - 7/10. minor fan of shakespeare, so might be a little bias, but i liked it. a fresh take on the story, following juliet's cousin rosaline, who is dating romeo before he meets juliet. set in 16th century, but theres no fancy language (the actors all speak and act like they would today) and the ending is great.
for a better shakespeare flick, i would recommend 'anonymous'. im not into the conspiracy that shakespeare was just a puppet, but the movie is still very well made/acted/written. 8/10.

old man - 5/10. kinda boring and i shouldve seen the ending a mile away, but if youre bored enough...a crazy old dude living on his own in the middle of nowhere has an unexpected guest when a weird young dude gets lost. really only has 2 actors pretty much the whole movie and it burns sloooooow. too slow.
 
I hit the flicks...TERRIFIER 2
Huge fan off the first film, and this one did not disappoint in the slightest.
Horror the way it should be, violent, gory and f#%$×'en awesome. Best thing I have seen for a while.
Horror fans rejoice... 9/10*
 
ALL QUITE ON THE WESTERN FRONT (Netflix)
Sweeping epic war film taken from the view of German soldiers involved in WW1. Battle scenes are brutal and up close ( very similar to opening of saving private ryan)
Excellent flick, up there with the better war films around 8.5/10*
