Footy stars 2022

regular cases sold out after about 10-11 mins, then went back online, are now showing sold out again

so still a much bigger sale than traditional footy stars, but it does seem that the manic peak is passing
I haven't looked at the checklist but I suspect the print run has gone up significantly rather than the manic peak subsiding

Because of the quick sell out last year I set my alarm( late night last night) and was frantically trying to order only to see that almost everything was still available (other than standard cases) when I'd got my order in. Dirty fomo got me again.

Anyway, I got what I wanted - 2 boxes and 3 albums. Last year my local news agent was only allocated 1 box and the other news agent which is where I used to get my folders from didn't get any folders last year. Again, I suspect the print run has significantly increased rather than demand dropping off. You can get a rough idea of how much larger the print run is year on year by the addition of new inserts and/or parallels.

I'm just happy to be back in the AFL/NRL fold after spending almost all of my drachmas on baseball, Hockey, NFL, and soccer in the last 3 years. I'm looking forward to the NRL Traders release and might have a crack at Select series 2 this year

Checklist has been updated...

First time ever I lashed out on a case of Jumbo's and please correct me if I am wrong but did Select ask for a tip? is this something new as I don't think I have seen it before
or have I got dirty glasses, also noticed 2 different types of albums

Defintely two different albums. There' the usual soft cover zipper with two packs and then there's a hardcover ( like teamcoach) one where the sleeves are glued in and you get one pack with that one.

Have fun ripping your case.

Martin and Petracca are fair names to pull out of a $105 box. 1:1296 packs ain't easy but still. Great innovation actually. Select have done a good job of it this year. If only Topps Panini and UD were more like that.

Demand dying or print runs through the roof?
A bit of both I reckon. Plus I think many were forced to buy a lot of cards all at once last yr . When many , like me , tend to buy a box here and there.
It starts to get very expensive and although I like the fact there are more options as far as sets go, I think many have gorged themselves on cards like Augustus from Willy Wonka . We may all need to go on a card diet for a bit .

Bought a Jumbo box tonight. I notice both the Jumbo and regular Footy Stars boxes are the same price, is the general consensus that the Jumbo boxes contain a fair bit more value insert wise? The Select website says that every 8th individual Jumbo box purchased will have a free bonus Virtuoso pack, that along with the Virtuoso signature cards would seem to suggest so.

When did select include this Information, I didn’t realise you get a virtuoso pack per jumbo case. I agree the jumbo is better value than the regular.

Personally, I have taken the punt that the Jumbo will hold slightly more collector value longer term. But I feel it will be marginal. If I interpret the prelease information correctly, the main points for mine prior to release are that the lack of ability to pull any of the Coleman, Brownlow or Premiership Predictors from the Jumbo boxes is an omission from the Jumbo's insert set that weakens its overall attractiveness. The revised checklist from Select suggests the "A Grade" Virtuoso pulls (V37 - V78) will be exclusive to the Jumbo case inserts (let alone the 1 in 9 case Virtuoso signature potential). If Select adopt the approach that the higher tier players or rookies are exclusive to and represented in the Spectrum Redemptions 4 and 5 as well, then the Jumbo line will gain extra strength.
