2022 Official NRL Thread (Spoilers/Rumours/Game Results/Discussions etc.)

Open secret in some areas. Anyway...

It was implied also on NRL 360 that there maybe others, well that was my take on the discussion.

The NRL need to start their education and testing regimes much earlier. When my son was playing juniors up here on the coast it was also suspected that a couple of the boys in the comp had an "unfair advantage". These boys played reps so testing rep players in the system would be a good start. That said one of the kids very strangely decided to take a year or so off reps and returned later a different body shape, puberty supposedly. He went on to play Harold Matthews.

Starting earlier and being high profile would be a deterrent.

Ross

I think the players need to take more accountability. If any professional sports person isn’t aware of the rules in 2020 they are telling porkies .
You hear boxers saying they won’t even drink out of opponents water bottles after a fight just in case .
I’m tipping what he took would of been more to combat injury then for a physical advantage or maybe a bit of both?
Maybe start with where he got them and that might open a few doors .
I feel bad for him that a stupid decision has ruined a promising career but that’s the punishment he gets and the millions he won’t make because of it .
Also a bit unfair on his teammates as the results were known well before the sharks agreed to let Morris go to the roosters . A decision that wouldn’t of been made in hindsight.
I also noticed in his statement he felt bad about not being able to play with the boys but not much of an apology for letting everyone down , shows his character I suppose?

I think lack of accountability tends to be a systemic issue based on today’s society. Prior to anything being written or said, the line of player welfare was being trotted out. I don’t have an issue with Xerri or other young players being looked after in this situation but I feel it shields them from having to take full accountability. The B sample hasn’t occurred yet but the writing seems to be on the wall, it seems reasonable to say he knew full well what he was putting into his body and had been prior to the injury.

Regarding ASADA (and other enforcement / investigative bodies for that matter), I can’t see an issue with the time it took. Yes, absolutely frustrating for Cronulla having let a perfectly good replacement go but ASADA are not guided by what is best for the team but preventing cheating by use of the banned substances. If anyone should be getting a hard time for this it should be the player and those who were involved. At the end of the day, if he doesn’t do the wrong thing he doesn’t have a case to answer.

Based on the suspected drugs taken, I lean more towards physical gain due to the types of steroids allegedly taken being all anabolic as oppose to corticosteroids or glucocorticosteroids then I would of leant towards more help with injury recovery. Taking multiple steroids it's also known as stacking and frequently done in body building and weight lifting and used to help gain that advantage over others.

I do think 6 months is unfair on Cronulla as a club. I do wonder though wouldn't they have suspicions given they weigh, monitor and measure players after every session. It may not have been a healthy relationship keeping Morris against his wishes anyway.

Yep from what I understand the fact these anabolic steroids have been banned for decades it seems as f here will be no defence as the only reason to take them is for an illegal advantage.

I would have thought ASADA should have been ready by at leas at Rnd1 that would have been 3-4 months and just before COVID impacts however I don't find any fault in what they have done really, he hasn't been allowed to compete and perhaps they were investigating something deeper, time will tell.

I'm in for a cut out it would be cool signed and hung in "manland" in years to come.....family heirloom.

How good is it to have footy on. I cant wait.

Enjoy

There’s only one testing facility in Oceania.

ASADA could potentially be running a case in others or a network so don’t announce it until Investigation is satisfied.

Could be an ongoing police case too.

The combo of drugs aren’t your run of the mill oops I had a nutrient bar either.

There is also suspicion this goes back two-three years so could potentially affect or implicate junior team and the sports school he attended.

Finally...don’t cheat.

Haha, will let you have that ;) Was only happy he torn storm apart as he’s in my supercoach lol

Scary to think he was 3rd in line last year. I would be crying if I was a tigers fan. The last 3 years they let go:
Pappi, Ado-Carr, Tedesco, Moses.

You go back another 5 years then it include:
Nathen Brown, Curtis Sirenon, Martin Tapu, Andrew Fifita, Marika Korrabetti .... the list goes on. Their management needs the sack.

The new rule changes are creating some serious score lines. Suits some teams more then others. Loving league being back.

Lodge too. Tatola.

Need to say it. How good was Ryan Papenhuzan bat back into play last night of the penalty. Some of the athleticism shown by all league players given there size is incredible!
Yeah I enjoy watching that about him, just worry that by sprinting hard out and changing direction that he increases the risk of serious injury if he gets hit (I pray that it never happens) as I would to see him develop into his full potential with a long career. Also nice to see he isn’t a speed hump in defence like Hodgson was

Greg Leleisiuao side stepped him in the 20s and he broke his leg untouched
