Tasmania in July...

My girlfriend and I have decided to go to Tassie for a few days in July (evidently Victoria isn't cold enough for her during winter...) and im wondering what wonderful sites there are to see in Tassie.

We are flying in Lonnie, before spending the day in Georgetown, where my mother lived for several years. We are going to Port Arthur, Coles Bay and Saint Helen's but we dont have much in way of other things to do, apart from the James Boag's and Cascade Brewery tours.

Any ideas, hints or tips about Tasmania would be awesome.
 
Go for a walk just on the edge of town to Cataract Gorge. Thats one of my favorite places in the world and is a good walk.

Supposedly they only run on saturdays, and we will be back on the mainland by then, we are going from monday morning to friday arvo, which is a pity, cos i was keen have a look.

Im certainly going to check out that Catract Gorge you mentioned Chad; that one of the greatest things about Oz, the amazing natural wonder it has
 
Be prepared to walkaway with a large tote box of factory seconds from Cadbury, we were given a large box each of factory seconds which lasted the 2 weeks when we were there.

These are some of the great spots we visited on our trip to Tassie.

A quick visit to Port Arthur during the day to do your own thing and take a ride on the ferry with a quick joy flight around the local area is perfect.
The night ghost tour of Port Arthur is another great experience.

A quick walk around Cradle Mountain is even better if that's your thing.

Horse Riding down near Koonya is awesome.

Jet Boats down south somewhere, i can't remember exactly where it was mainly because i was hugover and i must stress that this isn't a good cure for alcahol poisoning.

The Casino in Hobart was under renovation when we were there but i believe it's all finished now. This place is amzing.

Salamanca Markets in Hobart is another great way to spend a day of losing all your money, it's a great multicultural experience as well.

For starters, you're ruining your trip by flying into Lonnie...

Go for Hobart.. ;)

Then you can do the Cascade Tour... ;)

You have as mentioned, Salamanca Markets (Sundays) - great for tourists, exy for locals, or ones familiar with the markets.
You can enjoy the Hobart Warf area too, great for nightlife!

Mt Field National Park (also known as Russell Falls) is one of my faves, once lived up there, and it's great in the colder periods.

Mt Wellington is a great view, only been up once, that was a while ago tho. Good drive.

Could head up/down the East Coast, stop at Bicheno/Swansea/Orford/St Helens, etc. Great for fishing, if you have the time.

Havent done the Cadbury tour, but I hear it's great. I live just over the "bay" from there. There's a Chocolate Factory near Devonport on the Highway, we've stopped by, that was great!!!

Port Arthur is fantastic, I hear they do all sorts of tours down there.

Richmond is nice small tourist town, but once you've been there, it's nothing special.

Let me know what you're into, what you'd like to do, (bush walking, city tour, etc) and I'll see what I can come up with...
 
ahh I agree with Chad Cataract Gorge is awesome. The best thing about Launceston (besides Boags).

Have done Cadbury myself... and its okay but bloody hot in there! A lot of the sights have already been mentioned... again it really does depend what you like doing.

But ignore Scotty he doesn't know what he's on about, Launceston is awesome ;)

If you're goin to be in George Town I do recommend a meal at the Pier Hotel. They have awesome food.
 
I sense a little bit of Tassie rivalry between you and Scotty AJ.

Thanks for the tips; i didnt really know that much about nice places in Tasmania, especially around Lonnie, but i'll certainly be checking out the gorge, as well as Boag's.

It's the BEST when it's snowing!

My front wheel drive 1.8L got us up there for the night.

Man they have the best rooms, illegal fires (no casing around them, and they burn red hot!!) but fire cranked up relaxing in a cool/calm spa with some alcohol, the best! lol.

Just let us know where you're planning on heading (middle, south, east, west, etc, etc) and we can let you know some great places.
 
Agreed best when snowing, but everything he mentioned was cityish stuff, so I assumed not a hiking while freezing your jugs off type of person! I could be wrong though...I'd do it in snow ;) But then I'm a Forestor

Im a real country boy, from way out East, on the Gippsland Lakes.

My missus is a real city girl tho and wouldn't like to running around the bush in the snow; in fact she hasnt ever seen snow, as opposed to my experience of playing football in the snow. I would love to see Cradle Mountain, I might try and head out there.
