The Official 2017 TLA Elite NRL Thread (Sell Sheet Page 10, 1/1 Preview Page 17)

But would increase player hoarding if it was to go down that avenue, having to buy the full set is much better as it would annoy the crap out of me if I couldn't complete my team set as someone has taken all the one card
Hoarding is good if it keeps the value and interest up compared to buying a full set and having it halve in value.........

Perhaps to resolve both issues they could be via redemption. For example, one ruby mojo redemption per box with the serial number and team, no player. Get 9 and you can redeem a set.
If you have to match serial numbers that's a pain. People would try and get 1 of a popular number for a team and hold it so that it can't ever be redeemed.

Have them for teams, but make them number neutral and assign by redemption order (or request seeing as first in will get #1 anyway)

Certainly an option but potential issue would be larger dealers / case breakers completing sets much faster and redeeming for the lower or more sought after numbers. I don't think there is a straight forward solution, either way some level of collector would be frustrated and unhappy.

There should only be one mojo set like in 2015 limited to 40. Three different sets is just crazy IMO
Wouldn't surprise me if next year they introduce the rainbow mojo collection. 7 different coloured mojo's! Is ESP trying to kill off the average Joe Blow from being able to enjoy this hobby? Only the authorised selling agents will be able to collect the whole series and hold the market to ransom.
If you honestly evaluate the 3 series releases done each year, the Extreme series is extremely below average and not worth collecting, the Traders in my opinion is average at best with its insert series and the Elite as mention are for these who own their own houses.
It will be interesting what next years release may look like if the RLPA gets their way and players have control over their intellectual rights? Packs may be worth $15+ each to pay for the players demands. Any thoughts on this out there?

The options for lower end insert sets that could be one per team are endless. To that end I think this is something that ESP/TLA need to focus on to bring a bit more value back to Elite boxes. I would love to see a bit of nostalgia make it's way back into the releases.

Here are a few I think could work;

Sharp Shooters - A themed set for the Goal kickers
Famous Nicknames
Then and Now - A dual card, one old player and one new. EG - WIKI / PAPA

16 Elite was a very good release but these high end releases are all about balance. I broke myself getting a Raiders Sapphire last year and would really love an Emerald this year but can I justify it?

I really hope for a couple of things to be fixed this year;

No stacked cases! If they want to sweeten the dealer cases more than the box card / case card that is fine but market the release as hobby and retail and have the retail a bit cheaper! I could be wrong but I don't think I heard of a Sapphire Mojo from a non-dealer box.

No dud boxes! I love busting boxes / packets more than anything but when you pump nearly $200 into a box for a captain card then it hurts!

as usual @Brendan_B you are right, 200 for a dud box, whilst luck of the draw is part and parcel of collecting it is extremely unfair,

I get that elite is the "High End" Product but you compare to other high end products on the market they usually have Guaranteed items e.g. 2 autos and one patch per box etc...

I liked the idea of the mojo parallel but the multiples is getting to much I would of rather seen them introduce something else in that place have 16 club legends sign a card and have it coloured like the mojos and numbered to 50/20/10 or whatever..

So was the Double Header patch planned with last year's Elite due to the likely possibility of storm and sharks in the finals for 2 straight years or was it more of a "we have leftover patches, might as well use them" kinda thing?

Makes me wonder what happened/will happen to the Broncos and Souths patches from last year

I think it was a case of we have these left, it would also been good to see a GF commemorative card with a Sharks v Storm patch, a nice gold stamped trophy logo in the middle of the card and patches either side...

Totally agree! or a quad......sharks & storm players from this years and last years jerseys!

That's the way I interpreted it, a third player(or parallel) to the crystal collection, 30 cards but 2 players spanning their careers

This is going to play havoc for the team breaks, JT being one of the cards the Cowboys collector who takes a Cowboys spot in a break will get most of the cards.

I'm surprised that ESP hasn't had some sort of lawsuit against them over the boxes that were sent out to retail. Like you said it should be labeled as retail and hobby cases and the retail be cheaper if the sapphires (and guessing now emeralds) aren't in any of the retail boxes

I bought heaps and heaps of packs of Elite through newsagents last year. I got absolutely smashed with dud boxes. I would say I hit atleast a dud every 2nd box! Didn't get anything higher than a regular jersey patch. No sign of mojos or jersey sigs!
I have no problem with supporting dealers but I should also be able to go down to my local newsagent and have the same chances of getting something good, as I would from a dealers box. Especially if I'm gonna pay the same price per pack and they advertise odds on the packs which are clearly false for newsagents stock!

If it's the same this year I won't be buying any more than a box for a common set

I wonder what the ACCC would say about this It's clearly misleading customers from ESP

Yep I hate 1/1's they're the best way to kill off longtime team collectors

Yeah it's a huge change in collecting habits. When you have been used to chasing all the cards for a team every year there is definitely a sense of what's the point.

And then you look at the hit league card prices have taken in the past two years and wonder what's the point in selling up haha.

Except that they don't have a team to support I envy the North sydney card collectors. a finite list of cards to aim for without fear of a 1/1 to wreck it all for them.

Thankfully I don't think The bulldogs will have a 1/1.

Most of the set looks ok except not anfan at all of /10 mojo or 1/1.

I must say collecting the club issued stuff is more and more rewarding
