I've noticed a few auctions tonight, with shipping $19+, $26+, and even this from one Auction:

PLEASE NOTE THAT DUE TO POSTAL SHIPPING CHANGING INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING WILL NO LONGER BE OFFERED. I AM SORRY TO ALL MY OVERSEAS BUYERS BUT THE SHIPPING RATES ARE GOING TO BE TOO HIGH AND I KNOW THAT YOU DON'T WANT TO PAY THAT MUCH TO SHIP A SMALL ITEM AND I DON'T LIKE TO TO CHARGE THAT MUCH. THIS ALSO APPLIES TO CANADA. PLEASE DON'T BID YOU ARE NOT IN THE U.S.

Can anyone elaborate on these shipping changes????

as far as I know, airmail and global priority are now no longer availible. I'm not sure what is going to be offered now, but as those used to be the two best options (for price and service), maybe their only offering global express. I hope not for all collectors sakes, as this is going to make it very expensive for collectors looking for those rare cards.

I got the following e-mail from one of my suppliers...

As of May 14th the US Postal rates are going up. Global Priority will be $1.50 more. They are also eliminating the surface option for overseas shipments.

I don't think it's as severe as those US sellers are making out....it might pay to check out www.USPS.com for more info.

Getting rid of surface-mail is bad news for me...I often use it when buying in big lots of old (heavy) boxes....I haven't confirmed this myself yet.

USPS are also offering special Ebay pre-paid boxes...this may be adding to the confusion.

Yep, this is exactly why I am leaving those high end chases.

Most sellers have opted not to send our way at all. So, chasing low serialled sets is a no go.

Gotta love picking up a acrsd where shipping cost more that the card itself.

Why they don't offer it when WE pay for shipping is beyond me?

The shipping price has NO impact on sellers and only US as buyers that have to pay it. Hopefully international airtravel to the US is cheaper now thanks to it being more subsidised by the USPS system.

I agree fully Chad.

Many of the sellers claim its too hard to sell to Australia, too much effort... what the hell. If you want to sell your items for the most you can, you sell to everyone, and not say "oh its too hard stand in line for 20 minutes and fill out a 2 minute custom form, **** it i wont sell outside the US".

The costs of the postage service, as Chad has said, is beared by the buyers, and the majority of the time the sellers knock it up a touch to get some more profit.

Im going to bookmark that site link you put up Marcus, and its going to become the bible of shipping guides for me, now when a seller quotes 17.50 to send 1 card, I will ask if he is going to swim across the Pacific and give it to me personally..

For letter post, it doesn't appear to have changed much at all. Instead of airmail, it's called priority mail and the base is $1.07. It does have alot of different requirements which need to be met though.
The changes have basically cancelled out any surface mail and changed all international mail over to the same methods that are offered for internal US shipping. That's from what I've read on it all.
Apparently the changes have been made to make international shipping easier for people in the US. It's aimed at making it more accessable, they offer alot of freebies to help out too. So it's very typical that some US sellers are making a big issue out of it trying to say it's harder. Log onto the usps website, they have released a magazine recently which has some good info in there about it. The info is available on the site.

The US prices for international shipping has increased a little recently and the options have changed slightly, but overall, it is still cheaper then for us to send to the US.
