2016 AFL Season Discussion

Vardy's nominated West Coast, it from reports it sounds like he's going to get there.

Think even the person running West Coast's twitter feed might have been against this when they liked this reply:

Yeah i expected as much.

Considering we're not giving up much for him (4th rounder apparently) i can live with it. He is still young enough that if he can stay healthy he may make a go of it but i have a feeling he will get to know East Perth rather well over the next few years. All in all though we addressed our needs with ruck support and midfield help coming in and still get to go to the draft with round 1 and 2 picks and a 3rd rounder for Waterman.

Vozzo & Rawlings have performed very well indeed......plus we avoided Old man river (Petrie) King hit, drop kick (Conca) and Frodo (Ballantyne) so i'm pretty happy overall.

Plus we got Toby Nankervis from Sydney too for like a 3rd round pick

Is he good Swans fans?

@ShueyGaffDarlingNat Theres still hope that you can get Spud Conca out of Tigerland lol

No, No..... You're stuck with him..... besides we have enough spuds of our own thank you very much.

As for Nankervis, he is serviceable and considering you gave up a 3rd??? That's pretty reasonable.

And with all the pick trading here's the current draft order (first two rounds)

1. Essendon
2. GWS
3. Brisbane
4. Gold Coast
5. Carlton
6. Gold Coast
7. Fremantle
8. Gold Coast
9. Port Adelaide
10. Hawthorn
11. North Melbourne
12. West Coast
13. Adelaide
14. Sydney
15. GWS
16. Brisbane
17. Sydney
18. Western Bulldogs
19. Port Adelaide (Priority)

36. St Kilda
37. GWS
38. Geelong
39. Sydney
40. Fremantle

My thoughts:

Brisbane going hard at the draft, with 4 picks in the first 22, looking to lock Jack Bowes not doubt.

That said, Gold Coast also going hard at the draft, with 3 picks in the top 10.

What are North are doing though. Dropped off horribly this year. Now no Petrie, no Harvey, no Dal Santo, trade injury prone Wells for injury prone Ahern, and just 1 pick in the top 30. Unless something dramatic happens in the next day, they're screwed, because nothing on their current list looks like they'll make the jump next year.

Would really love to know Hawthorn's endgame. Can't see them landing O'meara without either giving up Pick 10 - their only pick in the top 40 - or giving up more quality players. Tom Mitchell's a good get, but I have no idea why they went after Vickery, unless they hope they can turn him into a Roughead replacement. Losing Sam Mitchell, Lewis and Hill is not what I'd considering trimming the fat. Some speculate they're clearing the books for next year when Dustin Martin and Nat Fyfe are on the market. (whichs begs the question, how could you be so confident they will still be on the market...)

1 day left, hold onto ya butts!

I dislike Vickery also, but Hawthorns issue next year was going to be this, you cant bank of Roughy being back mid year, and with Ceglar out all year we were seriously lacking a tall forward who can help out McEvoy in the ruck from time to time. Lets be honest, there weren't too many ready made forward/ruckmen available, Hawks had to get him. Roughy might be back mid year, but might take him a good month to get back into the swing of it, and without a Vickery type it would have been too late. I trust it was the right decision to get him, what i don't like is what i'm hearing he might be earning.
It will be a mad house at the AFL today with everyone rushing too get trades happening last minute. Not too concerned if Hawks don't get O'Meara as the Suns boss is being a total toss over the whole trade. I don't want the Hawks to give up too much for him. What i don't understand is if the Suns don't get a trade organised then he walks into the draft and they get nothing, surely picks 10 and one in the 40's is a hell of a lot better than being a stubborn twat and getting nothing.

Exactly. Tony Cochrane would be doing a disservice to Gold Coast by letting O'Meara walk for nothing. I'd take pick 10. It would be nice to get him but if it doesn't work out , we go to the draft with pick 10.

tbh I like that Cochrane is sticking to his guns. Too many times the threat of being sent into the draft is seen as empty, as its assumed clubs would rather something than nothing.

But with 4 picks within the first 30 - 3 in the top 10 - they're not exactly hard up for picks.

Qld teams have taken a battering at the trade table lately, and they're drawing a line in the sand. If a player wants out, they won't just take any old deal for the sake of it, and being thrown back into the mix at the draft is a very real possibility for the player.

And its all too easy to pin this just on the Suns, but Hawthorn hasn't exactly come to the party either. Even if Lewis had agreed to go to the Gold Coast, I question whether the Suns would've taken someone of the back end of their career when they're essentially in a rebuild of sorts. Wouldn't think bolstering their playing group with experience heads for short term success is exactly their plan right now.

And it's over

Think I've got everything

O'Meara deal done at the death, Pick 10 + multiple future 2nd round picks. Gibbs however stays at Carlton.

Good on Gold Coast and Hawthorn for getting the deal done. O'Meara is "up and about" according to Colin Young.
Deledio takes a pay cut to join GWS.

Does mean however that Hawthorn's first pick in this year's draft is in the 5th round at pick #88

And they've already trade a first round and multiple second round picks in next year's draft.

Can't believe Collingwood got a better draft pick for Cloke than what Hawthorn got for Sam Mitchell. This shocks me!

Since the trade period is over

What are you guys thinking of the draft this year?

This year will be the best draft in a while (not 2002 good, but nearly as good). Some great mids, but the draft is a bit short on virtually anything else.

I watch the draft avidly every year, and I live 5 mins away from a top TAC Cup program (Oakleigh Chargers); this year's draft excites me.

Oh, and I just noticed that @BLOWN8 is literally on 2,999 posts haha

Good spot, guess that means this is lucky number 3000 then

I also love the draft. But I take more of an interest in which Tassie guys get drafted and also who the Hawks pick up. I don't pretend to know who's going to get drafted and in what order, but still exciting.

Eagles had delisted Mitch Brown who will seek a move back to Victoria as a delisted free agent.

They also delisted Fraser McInnes, but will look to re-draft him as a rookie.

Tom Lamb also signed on for another year.

Was curious about the kid, so I followed the West Coast insta page to Lamb's... and now I see why he probably wants a move back to Victoria.
