This is very interesting - At this stage there will be no official panini signed rookie cards of the number one pick.

What impact if any will this have on 2016/17 products. Imagine this year's products without KAT autos...

What will upperdeck produce card wise to satisfy card collectors - Especially with Panini having most of the college licences.

If you were planning on PC'ing him - does this change your mind?

You think just signing with only 1 company is good? It would be good if UD brought out more products, back in the 90's UD was top, then fleer and topps then hoops, lots of companies folded, now it's Panini and some UD

Step in the right direction yes. Obviously the more, the merrier but it'll be a trickle of athletes like this, not all at once imo.

Base cards, inserts and memorabilia cards.......just no autos.

Nope, UD doesnt have a college or NBA license, so they cant produce even the base cards with college or nba team names or logos. They would have to do more of a Leaf style product.

Think he means Panini will be making the NBA cards just no sig cards.

Ah my bad, I read it as 'what can we expect from UD'.

I think its okay. It shows that UD potentially have something up their sleeves, which will better the market when they can produce something again.

Upper Deck has stated that Ben Simmons will appear in their 'Goodwin Champions' product.

This is a fricken unusual product which features multi-sport cards, animal cards, dinosaur cards, war-time relic cards, mystical god cards etc etc
Mostly they are artists sketches/paintings etc so not many actual photographs are used, hence less licensing arrangements have to be made.

Here is the 2015 product: http://www.dacardworld.com/sports-cards/2015-upper-deck-goodwin-champions-hobby-box

AND the 2016 Product which is what I think Simmons will be appearing in; http://www.dacardworld.com/blog/upper-deck/2016-upper-deck-goodwin-champions-preview/
However I would advise to refrain from locking in any product until formally announced by UD.

As for Panini there will be the usual RC's and prizms and inserts from every product. However putting out any memorabilia cards remains to be seen.
My guess is YES, that Panini will put out memorabilia cards, the same as you see LeBron memorabilia cards now.

There is also the possibility that Panini is given a contract by UD for a certain number of autos in their 16-17 product. (such as what Panini obtained from Leaf for Damian Lillard)
I would correctly assume this would cost Panini an extreme ammount of money, the likes of which would make the product they end up in being so stupidly expensive even pulling the auto would net you a loss.

We can only live in hope!

Panini still holds the NBA exclusive rights for trading cards until the end of the 2016-17 season.
Which is unfortunate for us collectors that we will likely miss out on NBA licensed Simmons RC autos alltogether.

Here is one of his first signed cards..... looks like he signed RS? With Panini, they will still have licenced rookie cards and memorabilia, just not autos......might be cheaper for collectors actually!

From the product details:
Every 16-Box Case contains One Autograph, Six Rare Mini Cards #'d to 25 or less, Two Premium Memorabilia Card, Five The Supernaturals Lenticular Cards, and Five Origins of the Species Patch Cards!

Wow. 1 auto in 16 boxes?!/!?!

So pulling a Ben Simmons auto would be possibly 1 in 50 cases? :(
