NRL Rumour Mill Thread (Spoilers/Game Results)

Good to see the NRL Judiciary as consistent as ever. I can cop Wighton and Boyd being suspended but not when others go unpunished for more serious things.

How Koroibete and the Brown can escape punishment is beyond me and how others earlier this year have 'touched'referees and nothing has been said.

In other news I hear both Mitch Barnett and Brendan Elliot to Knights as early as this weekend. Barnett is a great pick up, definite first grade back rower. big, aggressive, plays big minutes and has got a good offload. Sad to see him leave Canberra, never really got a shot and so much depth in that are at present, hopefully he adds something to the Knights, I am sure he will.

I also heard that Canberra are chasing ESL Man of Steel (2015) Zac Hardaker. I know Mulholland was over there for a couple of weeks and apparently Hardaker and Whitehead are good mates but he is asking a fair bit of coin and I think Canberra are set for their backline at present.

Rumours about Tevita Pangai Junior's signing to Brisbane has come out.

23 December 2015, domestic lounge at Brisbane, secret meeting with Brisbane officials where he signed a two year deal from 2017. He was obviously released early and is with Brisbane now.

These secret meetings seem commonplace to poach players now but it is really poor form and talking to contracted players in this manner should be sanctioned.

At least it continues to build the rivalry between the clubs

James Tamou has signed with Penrith.
His manager is denying that a decision has been reached but admitted the 4 year deal from the Panthers is favoured.

What I cant understand is Gould's 5 now 10 year plan, "lets get rid of all the overpaid talent to promote and retain our juniors and then the Panthers go and splurges on more over paid talent from outside the area. They now have way too many back rowers so I would expect some movement.

Anyone else think this has been a strange mixed message recruiting policy?

He has signed with Penrith. Players all want him there and he will be a great addition. Not a bad pack Merrin, Tamou, Cartwright, RCG, Peachey, McKendry etc. plus more young players coming through.

The issue with the over paid talent at the time was they took up a huge percentage of the salary cap. 5 players made up something like half the cap space.

In saying this lots of good local talent have started getting first grade experience......Martin, Cleary, Blake, DWZ, Yeo, RCG, Cartwright and Moylan have all come through over the past few years from the local juniors.

With the Salary cap going up in the next year or so, Soward (will retire) & Segeyaro (attitude and off field issues) will both be gone and a reduced Wallace 1 year deal and probably losing Mansour (hope not) they will have plenty of cap room but will also look to upgrade juniors and resign Moylan for a long time.

Not in a bad situation, they just need to start putting it together and getting some results.

I had heard they enquired about Cronk but he wanted 1.25 per year for 3 years to move.

It's a potentially a great pack and when I think about the whole squad recruitment it has been pretty shrewd....maybe I'm still bitter the Dragons lost Merrin

I don't know who your sources are but I have it on rock solid information that he is joining MasterChef to fulfil his new dream of cooking the perfect duck confit.
Haters are going to hate, he would walk straight back into the nsw side after 10 games of NRL next season.

People may not like how he conducts himself but he's talented

Except SBW is successful?
In reality he should of never left league he was at the peak of his power in 2014 taking nsw to q series win and his 2nd dally m medal.

Think he has realised he's a rugby league player and that's it.

Transitioning between league and union isn't a big deal but going to a sport you have never played is a step too far
