NRL 2016

didn't see all of the incidents, but I think there were 5 players who 'touched' a ref in round 2.
why weren't they all charged?

If the ref enjoyed the touch, it gets recorded as a mutually consented physical interaction between colleagues. If the Ref did not enjoy the touch, the player gets charged with assault.

I see what you're saying, and I might be a bit 'old school', but i was always brought up to NEVER touch the ref, friendly or not. To my mind, it leaves a variation in interpretation between refs, and one I saw from round 2 the player was warned not to go there two or three times by the ref, but continued to do so. Why was he not cited also, when the Ref obviously did not appreciate the contact and was well aware of it. In Klemmers case I think the Ref was unaware of the contact until afterwards, when the game was reviewed. My thought is, I guess, that if there is a very black and white line that can't be crossed then there is no excuse and therefore a level playing field for all. I have played at Nationals level for Indoor Cricket, and the only player to interact with the Umpire during the game is the Captain of the side, even to ask a question, no matter how respectively put to the Ump.
I tell you - I cringed when I saw Foran touch the ref the other night, and was sure he would be cited, and to my mind, rightly so. Then you have the point of penalty for the offence. Klemmer got off for something that was visually no worse than what Foran did, even though the 'cause' of the touch (Klemmer's concern for his player v Foran's appreciation for a Parra decision) were different, and the Ref was unaware in Klemmers case. So in that case why cite him and not others? Especially the player who was warned 2 or 3 times.
An early plea accumulates 90-odd points for Foran and leaves him free to play. I'm not sure what challenging and being found guilty does for him with the 120-odd points.
The way I see things, there has already been a discrepancy in the application af the law by the match review committee, along with a variation in perception by the ref's which a good lawyer might be able to utilise to get Foran off, if he challenges. But then again, I don't make a good lawyers hairy armpit.:p
We'll have to see how much conistency comes through the season with this one.

After last year, Klemmer should have had a year. Just so RL could say to every person playing you will never, ever act like that to a ref. I'd have given Graham 22 weeks too.

I'm sure Greenburg will make sure there is transparency and accountability and fairness in all charges henceforth.

The NRL are a joke.

It was always the case of you never touch the ref.

When they stop calling players out for a friendly warning or chat or a laugh and the player says yeah no worries sir and gives them a little touch this will keep happening.

Refs shouldn't be calling players by their first name either.

It should be like the old days where they were called by their number.
