Official ESP 2016 NRL Traders Thread (Sell Sheet Page 14)

I'll still collect because I love trading cards, always have always will. It is just the scope of my collection is diminishing and re-defining at a very quick rate. This means that the market for selling cards is diminishing too.

As James has stated this is just a financial reality.

That's a good point. If the current product continues to cut down collectors for whatever reason, then the value of all our collections suffers. I wouldn't want to be selling a collection right now ...

To be honest, I thought they had it mostly right with the League Sensations and Young Guns in the 2014 Elite (bar the 1/1 redemptions  ). The 3 sigs in Traders that year was enough for a mass produced set. Give Power Play the boot and a few less parallels in Traders and Elite and I'd be more than happy with the cards every year! I guess the only downside to that would be no huge pulls in any set (not something that I'm personally too bothered about, but I see the appeal and many collectors want it).

It is all moot until the checklist, player names and allocations come out I guess.

I'd estimate there is a third of the traffic in the NRL section on OZCT than there was when I joined. That isn't due to the off season...

True, But there is also at least 5 times as many big dealers in the game as there was before (Digga, Newcastle Cards, League Hub etc....) And they're doing business elsewhere on their own terms through their own mediums.
The facebook thing has real legs...
Keeping abreast of what's happening and what's out there is a much bigger job these days, Not just with Dealers and stock but the collecting market as a whole....

That is a very valid point, there is huge connect on Fb to people who would never have joined up here. The market for bits and pieces collectors is probably quite strong. Probably less strong for serious collectors whose consume all, be the biggest approach is travelling the way of gas guzzling cars and dinosaurs.

The Case / Team shares seem to have been the go.... They're heavily governed here - I know that's one of the reasons...

Someone call 000, a few collectors just had coronaries. :D

My perfect set of Traders

18 cards per team. This allows a team logo and maybe a Captain card

One set of parallels (black) 1:2 packets including the logo card

Continue with the Season to Remember. I like this as a cheap subset

Continue with Pieces of the Puzzle. Good set to put together.

The 1:18 themes have been okay so far. Maybe this time a tribute to the 80 minute men 'Iron Men'

1:36 the Galactic are looking a bit tired IMO. Perhaps this could be replaced with Dally M awards or similar.

1:72 Retirements are again looking a bit tired but I don't think that Club Leaders should go around again. Perhaps the 1:72 could be a past player and a similar current player

1:6 boxes should be a numbered insert but maybe not autos as I would prefer most autos to be in elite

Legends signatures I like them, keep them going

I like the Retirements, but they could change the design from year to year ...

I disagree - I like that there is a continual design.
I look forward to having quite a few of them as the years go on. I also though the original league sensation designs were fantastic - and that they should have continued with the exact same design - it would have been to have 20 odd club legends signature cards over 20 or so years that are the same design... Much like what they're doing with the legends

I agree with the same themes that are continued from series to series, having the design the same can make a large set of them look awesome.

Personally, another thing I would like to see is for sketches to make a comeback - I am a really big fan of them in the non-sport stuff and think they can have a place in sports. Select have their version of sketches in the "printed sketch" however I would like to see actual individual sketches, they don't have to just be of players, they could be of the club logos, the football, the goals, refs, mascots, crowd, stadiums, commentators, support staff etc...

What would be cool would be a similar thing that select do with the printed sketches in traders and then the actual hand drawn sketch cards in Elite, they could even be a 1 in 2 or 3 box type hit.

Maybe the back of the pieces of the puzzle that form the no 1 ranked player could be printed sketches?

I agree about consistency from series to series. A change up is good but Retirements are a well themed, well presented card. The only thing I would consider changing about these is remove the club logo or put all the logos of the clubs they played or are represented on the card. Take Berrigan's retirement from 14 Traders. Two seasons with Canberra, half spent in reserves and it is technically a Raiders card when it really should have been a Brisbane card

All the players club logo's would be good, I could have added; Bailey / Ryles / Payne to the PC but how would you fit someone like Finch's all on the card.

I reckon they should be club card variants - they already pay for the images m, the cards cost nothing... If a player is one club man - he has 1 retirement card. If there are 5 clubs, he has 5 variants. Let's be honest the background images aren't as important as the one up front!!

I would be on board with that! Would have loved a Best or Finch retirement in the PC but with their most recent club logo on them I couldn't do it!!

I would love to see
Parellels (silver, gold) and add ones that are in between gold and mojo, but are numbered and they come 2 per box (similar to what MLB )

Insets - retirements, galatic star, maybe inclusion of an Auckland nines card, season to remember .

Sig - one per box a young gun and a rare dual sig one for a case or so. (Not make it harder for people to get sig cards) I rather though elite 14 was spot on box to break. Good price and good set

Bang for Buck is needed to attract people to cards, however still keep the cards price the same.

I personally think loading up a mass produced lower cost release with signatures and multiple numbered inserts would be a big mistake and an even bigger detriment for the hobby.

By all means chock the release full of inserts, variety and a few numbered high end cards but leave the bulk of the numbered cards and signatures for Elite. If Elite is $9 per packet again, which it will be there needs to be two numbered box hits, one a YG auto and the other a 1:48 or higher depending on your luck
