i think fabrics smell too... i have yet to smell the cards though...

I think I read somewhere they washed the jerseys first before they put them on cards.

wrt smoke smell... I guess the card has to be in 'heavily' smoked house to smell, or perhaps they simply put it next to some cigarettes.

For all those concerned I'm a non smoker and if my show up smelly its probably the vanilla carpet spray ;-)

I can attest to this! I received one just the other week. As soon as you crack that bubble mailer, the smell hits your nose! I have had it happen a few times. You have to give the cards a good air for a few days out of their holders I think and it does the trick when you use new holders for them (unless you regularly like sniffing your PC I guess).

Whilst on the topic, here's a funny little story;
I won a Dwighty Swatches of Stardom on US eBay at a good price. It turned up after being opened by customs, with the yellow tape and all. I kinda wondered why a standard old GU would have been opened, then I check on the guys ebay username for what reason I don't know. Turns out he has the word reefer incorporated into his username! LOL! It had a slight smoky smell to it too. That kept me amused for a few days

im not sure cigarette smoke could permeate the card that much that it reeks of it...who smells their cards anyway?

I have busted Upper Deck boxes that really stunk.

we all have not necessarily of smoke tho....

I wonder if it's more the older cards that are likely to be affected by this?? Maybe the newer ones with the UV coating provides a bit more protection from the stink!!

Nope. Got brand new cards from this year that have the stentch of smoke.

Don't think the UV coating helps.

Yea, it affects old and new. I got a lot in today from a US seller, a mixture of old base, new base and gu and the whole lot is stinky #-o Some of the time I think it's just the penny sleeves that absorb the smell but alot of the time it's the actual cards.

As a smoker myself im always hearing people complain about the smell..not that its unjustified but some people are so sensitive to smells.
Personally i never smoke inside the house or around my cards..ive seen what they can do to walls,computers...yugg

Some of the time I think it's just the penny sleeves that absorb the smell but alot of the time it's the actual cards.

The cards are made of cardboard, which is an organic matter. Organic matter seems to absorb smoke better than plastic.
