Changing topic a bit.............I would say that the majority of Selects big hits signatures got that price and even more, there was certainly some duds along side the gems but every year had a whale of a hit IMO.

I'm bored so lets go through a few:

2000 Gasnier Legend Sig = $600+
2001 Langlands legends Sig = $600+
2002 Raper Legend Sig = $600+
2003 Lockyer Jersey Sig = $600+
2004 Capt Sigs = $600+
2005 Tradition Poore / Stewart / Tupou = $600+
2005 Power Beetson Legend Sig = $600ish
2006 Tye Williams...... :lol:
2006 Invincibe Johns Record Breaker = $600ish also JT Medallist
2007 Invincible C Smith probably unders...just?
2008 Centenary Immortals x 7 = $600+
2009 Classic Lockyer Capt = $600+
2010 Dudded with no SeriesII
2011 Strike Slater / Hayne Medallists = $600ish

I tend to think we can argue card price to death but until we know who's in it and the look / feel and quality then price could be anything.

I do think the secondary market will be inflated for a while as Sellers probably approach this release with caution due to the dramatically increased price so there wont be the same flood of cards as in releases past.

I hope the quality is there and then the market should be fair for all.

There were what, 1600 league sensation cards out there last year (can't remember if they were out of 100 or 110, or what exactly), so that's why they aren't selling for the Select prices ... personally I don't see a drama with that, I would much rather they had continued with it and had another quality Knights player with a sig this year, myself.

League Sensation have been /130 both previous Elite releases. That is 2080 in total on the market. The reason they flooded the market was because elite packets were accessible on a level that Select never was. Therefore you had non collectors, buying packets (Elite 13 had two sigs per box and Elite 14 was somewhat searchable) and dumping them on the market for a quick $30 profit.

As Leith said this is a buyers market so great in that aspect but the detriment caused is two fold. Firstly what is the point in collecting limited cards if everyone can buy one for next to nothing. I would be surprised if collectors out there aren't concerned with their collections keeping value.

Secondly this low price kills the dealers who look after us and the hobby so well. All of the dealers i know are very reasonable and bust multiple cases to provide us with the singles we need to complete sets. I would suggest that signature cards are their profit makers but if they are being flooded onto the market for low prices then there is no profit and the dealers go bust. We would all be worse for that.

Something is very wrong when a Greg Inglis Top Prospect /500 (great card that it is) fetches more than a League Sensation /130.

That is a trip down memory lane, so many great cards. It is such a shame to see the value down so low at the moment.

Recently I have seen a Lewis Immortal Signature go for $500 and a Slater 05 Power League Leader for $300. I know there have been a few Slater sigs over the years but $300 is really low

I agree but I also think an issue maybe in a change to what cards collectors are chasing.
With so many cards it seems a number of collectors are shifting to team sets only.
So if your only chasing 1 card from 2080 it will drop the price a little bit. Rather than 1 of each card available.
 
I didn't say that.

Anytime we buy a packet of cards and end up with just commons or just a 1:1 Silver parallel, we are never getting 'value' for money.

For the record, based on the ratio, the Silver Parallels in Elite 2015 end up limited to 525 of each player...that's the same as the Pride and Passion inserts last year or the Triple Threats the year before. Worth $9 to cover your packet price? Of course not....but if you're expecting to find a release which covers your packet price with every single packet then please let me know when you find it.

These higher end releases really aren't catering towards loose pack buyers. We can buy a box on these forums for $40 less per box than what the RRP is.

I think in comparison to the teams best players, they're a bit light. Everyone wants stars to help keep their cards valuable. Team collectors on the other hand are happy with the less popular players. You just have to take into consideration the difference in (for example) a thurston jersey card numbered to 50/ a lui jersey card limited to 50. Me? I'd be heaps happy with either. Others only the thurston and the potential for profit based on player.

I'm glad (if true) that they did go with "less" popular players, for the sake of team collectors. And as P_Phillips said, the shift from master sets to team collections has moved the market value heaps. Only chasing cowboys now eliminates me chasing all 16 teams like I used to.

I don't care what anyone else says, I'm on countdown until the release!

ESP had zero control of which players Jersey they received unfortunately. Blame the clubs if you dont like the choice or more importantly thank the clubs if you do
 
Just shows the lack of regard for the trading card industry from most of the clubs. Only four jerseys made available and not a marquee player in sight. So I suppose the four clubs should be given some accolade for their half-arsed effort whereas the others didn't want a bar of it. Seems us card collectors are way down the priority list this time as far as the NRL and the clubs are concerned.

If ESP wanted a high profile players game used jersey why wouldn't they just bid on it at the auction? I would imagine they have to pay the club for the purchase of the jersey anyway.

I don't collect game used jerseys so I am completely ignorant in terms of cost but I am sure they could make their money back somewhere in the release.

I take on board everyone's opinion in terms of players selected for the game used jersey cards and as a team collector I am always happy when a 'lesser' player gets a decent insert. I just think that when you are talking about a card falling one in 3 cases and limited to 50 (200 total production) then it should be a front line player.

I think you'll find most clubs can't afford to be just giving away jerseys. And I'm being serious.

The other thing is, the clubs must be loving game-day/match-worn jersey auctions. If they can get $500-$1000 a jersey they'd be rubbing their hands together.

As for footy cards, I reckon most of them wouldn't give a **** about the hobby or the industry. Which is ironic, since the NRL clubs are all about 'money' then you'd think the more they made the cards attractive, the more they sold, the more a manufacturer would sell and then probably the more licensing money going back in to NRL coffers to be split up to clubs and/or players. More kids with cards are likely to want to go to games...etc etc.

But like everything, the NRL want $$$ and big ones at that and they don't see the big picture, long term.
