15-16 NBA Draft and Pre- Season discussion

Word floating around on social media this morning is that D'Angelo Russell has no desire to play for the Sixers, after seeing their erratic draft and trade behavior over the past two seasons. Apparently, he'd rather they pass him over should the lakers not select him and be available for the Knicks. Ouch.

I read the same thing this morning! glad to see a thread up about the inbound draft! i cannot wait.

i cannot wait until the 1st July! get those trades happening. I being a Lakers fan want to see Okafor to be honest but that combo with Randle most likely will fail but its something can be taught.

I'm also a Lakers fan, and I don't hide my bias but I've been hoping we land Russell - been in love with his game all season long at OSU. I agree that Okafor + Randle won't work but I think Randle will be more of a Lamar Odom type role long term whilst Okafor would be more of a Bynum / Gasol ceiling - but leaves us still missing that #1 scoring option which Russell could become.

can we shoot for the stars with the FA's this season ? would anyone want to come over at this current time ?

I think we now have the foundation set so we are a more attractive destination this year than what we were 12 months ago. However, I'd still put as in the middle - lower tier.

I'm hearing that Jimmy Butler wants to sign an offer sheet with us, and if it's for the max the Bulls may not accept. The other option could be Tobias Harris

PG: Russell / Clarkson
SG: Kobe / Young
SF: Butler or Harris / ???
PF: ??? / Randle / Kelly
C: Ed Davis / Sacre / Tarrick Black

After Aldridge & Love, it's slim pickings for PF's this year I believe. Maybe trade Jordan Hill, as I don't believe they plan on keeping him, to Sacramento for maybe Derrick Williams? Or could they bring in Mike Dunleavy for a 2 year $5mill type deal? Perhaps even Demarre Carroll could be a target

However go the other way and draft big:

PG: Clarkson / Rondo (3 year, $24mill, team option year 3? Can't see him getting a much better deal that this anywhere)
SG: Kobe / Young
SF: Butler or Harris / ???
PF: Ed Davis / Randle / Kelly
C: Okafor / Sacre / Black

So many different options to look at. Regardless we should still be a better team next year than this

i think give Rondo a go! i like the second option more (i think we go big but somehow find a way for Randle/Okafor to work. It would be good to see if KAT is still available at #2 that would work (Randle&KAT).

I'm very open to giving Rondo a go. Biggest competition would be Sacramento, and then New York - in that order. However, it mostly depends on the Ty Lawson sweepstakes. Denver has made it known he's available and could mean he'll wipe out one location.

Denver give up Lawson, potential pick 20 from possible Faried trade to Toronto
Sacramento give up pick 6, Stauskas or McLemore

Denver then has both picks 6 and 7 in the draft - Justice Winslow (defensive SF) and Mario Hezonja (Croatian SG who's stock is making a late surge, and played with Nurkic in Europe) and puts them in a good position to rebuild.

Or maybe I've just been playing to much 2K15 haha

Excited to see what happens and who Mitch goes for! i wonder how many picks are moved on draft night thats always the best thing i like other than the positioning of who is picked at what #.

you have been playing too much 2k.. kobe is dying to play with rondo only competition for his services that i see are kings and maybe rockets he does not fit in knicks triangle offense terrible shooter.. missing the days when celtics and lakers had that rivarly going on for years ..2010 still leaves a sour taste in my mouth ..cant wait for the day we see lakers vs celtics in the finals again ..one can dream hmmm

Here's my draft night long shot that actually makes sense for all teams:

Denver acquire: pick 6 from Sacramento, Pick 20 from Toronto, Patrick Patterson, Stauskas
Toronto acquire: Kenneth Faried, future second round pick
Sacramento acquire: Ty Lawson

It would fast track the nuggs rebuild.
Gary Harris, Jusuf Nurkic, Justice Winslow, Mario Herzonja, Patterson (26 years old), Stauskas (doubled his output after the all star break).

Kings core would now be:
Lawson, McLemore, Gay, Cousins. Bench would be Collison. Then look for a SF or quality role players via free agency.

Toronto would address a huge need in rebounding.
Lowry, Derozan, Ross, Faried, Valanciunas then Hopefully be able to bring back Lou Williams.

You think Denver would be interested in a sign and trade involving Rondo for Lawson?

I don't think so. Denver wants to go full rebuild I believe and doesn't possess the shooting requirements to flourish in an up tempo game style.

Mavs however are trying to get Mo Williams tho. Could be a nice fit.

Chicago simply MUST match ANYTHING anyone offers Butler. I did read he was intrigued in the Lakers, but at the end of the day the Bulls will have the final say. I can't (hope!) see him leaving.

Bring on the craziness lol, can't blame Russell for not wanting to go to the sixers but think they are will take mudiay anyways, the lakers should take Russell, him learning from kobe for a year can only help, so many teams looking to makes moves, so many big teams that can't make the wrong move (Knicks, Lakers). Can't wait to see what team makes the first move.

Projecting the odds of each player becoming a star / starter / role player / bust

Lakers making a push to acquire Boogie via trade. I can't see this happening without giving up some combination of pick 2, Randle, Jordan Hill or Future draft picks.

Edit: apparently Orlando are also involved in the discussions with Vucevic replacing boogie in Sac-Town. Unclear what the magic are asking for.
