Thoughts on Spectra?

I want to hear peoples thoughts on Spectra.

I've always been undecided on Spectra as a whole, and this year was no different. The early previews didn't wow me, and unlike Preferred, I didn't jump at a group break, only buying into the Cherry break a day or so before release.

However, it's become a case of the more I look at it, the more I like it. In particular, the Spectacular Jumbo patch autos, and even the Global Icons have a unique look.

Absolute garbage IMO.

But there is plenty of content as far as hits go.

Just seems like no real chase cards. I will say, the Patches have been impressive like Select was. but Select has a brilliant design with the Courtside going for it.

I just think it's far too pricey and those that bought cases will struggle unless they're actually looking to collect because they like the look.

It's more of the same. I don't see it having a real point of difference to the other chrome products. They have chrome patch auto's, yes - but I'd rather see this in Prizm instead of so many parallels.

Having seen these in hand over a few breaks, they don't really WOW me.. but the quality of the cards is to be admired.

The packaging is again lack-lustre, but the make of the cards is second to none, from the 7 boxes I've opened for customers, I'd go as far as to say every one of them would grade 9.0+ for corners and 9.5 on the edges.
Edges are so sharp i nearly cut myself on a couple of them!

I really like the design and look of the jumbo patch cards, they are awesome.

I agree, THIS looks nasty.

I freakin love this Spectra release. If I was rich I'd be poor again in no time buying up a bunch of stuff!

Really??? Is it the KG in a Wolves jersey or you just like the design? Last years seems better to me.

Although as shown above, those pathes are freaking sweet. But if patches are the best thing about a refractor set then there's something wrong IMO.

Wiggins will carry this product anyway.
The Jabari's I've seen look crap. Hard to beat the colour of the Wolves refracted and patched etc.

Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Both of those cards look like they've been done before. They also look like $14 (Mullin)- $50 (Hill)cards. Which in a very expensive break is just not gonna cut it.

How many times can Panini run a Gold /10 and Green /5?

I find the Colours are getting very tiresome now. Even in Select, everything except the Courtsides are just blah.

I'd take the Hill for $50, I'd say closer to 200 but I get what you're saying and I can definitely understand why people don't like them. Or numbered parallel overkill. Or Panini. Or basketball cards.

Throw in an offer, you'll probably get it.

The clearly non game worn patch just doesn't go with the green IMO. $200 could get you something a lot better/nicer. Even from Spectra.

Not sure where you're going with your last sentence.

Point was that I can understand why people don't like or understand collecting cards so it's sure not hard to get why people are not fans of certain Panini releases eg Spectra

Not numbered RPA sticker auto's 2-3 per pack at $500 a pop is garbage, I have pulled some nice cards
from breaks and there is some huge hits to be had. Compared to Immac it is better value in my opinion
but so many sticker auto's makes me sick.

I think this is a poor, over-used and often misdirected complaint.

Yes, I detest sticker auto's as much as the next person, but in Spectra it was only the Rookie Patch Auto cards that had stickers. Similarly to immaculate, where only the Ink subset had sticker auto's.

It is not misdirected mate, cards that are not numbered are basically a license to print money.
Your right about the Immac ink being it is only the sub set that have the stickers but a high end product
at around $900 a box, yes a box should have zero sticker auto's out of respect for the consumer.
And the auto's are of nobody's just to fill space.
And yes it is only the Spectra rookies but I saw someone pull a Jabari /5 RPA the other day
and it was sticker auto unlike the Wiggins for some unbeknown reason his is on card.

its a fine line really. do you accept stickers for autos or does you let half the key cards in a product become redemptions that you wait 12-24 months for, by which time most rookies no longer have any value what so ever?
