Hi all,

Apologies if this has been done, but I was wondering how people rank 14-15 NBA cardboard.

How do you rank what you've seen so far based on fun/value? Obviously, Immaculate is nicer than Hoops, but please consider the price here as well.

Example:

1) Select
2) Hoops
3) Spectra
4) Immaculate
etc.

and feel free to comment further on what you think of them.

A little bit hard as there are retail only products that we don't really have access too... but sure, I'll have a crack.

1) Select
2) Immaculate
3) Court Kings
4) Gold Standard
5) Spectra
6) Totally Certified
7) Threads
8) Hoops
9) Prestige
10) Paramount
11) Donruss

*Donruss is generally junk
*Paramount was hugely underwhelming
*Prestige has a billion parallels that all look the same
*Threads is a retail only version of hoops in terms of pack out but with a much nicer design
* TC - adding the diecut parallel killed any value
* Spectra's price per box is far too high
*Gold Standard is a huge improvement on last year.
*The top 3 i think is pretty self explanatory.
 
I'd say Josh has pretty much nailed it.

Spectra looks pretty junky to me. I get the nice Patches and lots of Autos and low #s. But Select has the better chase cards with the Courtside cards.

I've really come around the Court Kings. Nice product.

Immaculate has some very nice chase cards with the Acetates and all the Prime Patches and Tags.

But I think Flawless will be very nice. Hard to believe we've still got Preferred and apparently another high end product to go.

I think there's a fairly large gap between top 4 and the rest.

There's actually another 9 products to go!
 
yeah I reckon Josh is all over it!

Only thing I would think is that maybe Paramount higher - some really nice designs, I think the only let down is that more often than not there is one good box and the rest of the case is left lacking.

Personally I'd probably have TC lower too - the amount of parallels in it just drove me nuts.

Got no problem with paramount as a whole - just for that price point I'm expecting a whole lot better than what they delivered.

Yeah I'm not sold on the Spectra either.

I agree there's a group that stands out at the top. There's obviously a few more releases ahead, and a few of those look like they might crack into that top group.

Oh damn I thought I was forgetting one but couldn't work out what!

Prizm would slot between Spectra & Totally Certified for me, however I can make a case for it to be the slot above Spectra also. The false scarcity this year of the product (gold / gold pulsar, red / red pulsar, black / black pulsar) waters the product down way too much and as such holds little value on the secondary market. I'm also not convinced the jersey / relic cards were required or necessary, but only inserted to further pad out the product.
 
For me, its;

1) Immaculate
2) Select
3) Spectra
4) Paramount (Penmanship especially)

And I don't really rate the rest tbh.

I think Preferred is going to be fantastic.
 
Immaculate and court kings are my top 2 so far, am I the only person thats HATES select. everyone is raving about them but I just dont see what the fuss is about. I may just be sour because ive had no luck in my boxes..........
 
Josh pretty much nailed it, my list would be; (excluding US retail only releases)

1) Court Kings - Beautiful designs, game dated jerseys, 4 on-card auto sets, box-topper autos and great price point.
2) Select - 1st wave was great with loaded cases, x-fractor prizms look awesome, tie-dye sets look pretty cool too.
3) Immaculate - Only here, because not much else stands up well. The price is so stupid per box, but you can pull one very special card per box. (usually)
4) Gold Standard - Guaranteed RC GU auto per box is a plus, but the $100+ boosted price over last 3 years is a fail.
5) Spectra - Best made cards this year, but a lot of the designs are ..meh. whatever. nice to see a couple of boxes per case have 2 extra base parallels.
6) Paramount - only here because of the excitement of buy-back autos and the premier penmanship and next day on card rookie auto sets. everything else about this product stinks.

7) Prizm - 1 RC auto per hobby box at $100+ .. are you fkn kidding me ?? dwight powell anyone??? FAIL!!! jumbo wasn't much better.. base base base base base....
8) Hoops - Best Hoops design in a while with nice parallels.. RC on card autos would have made this product much higher up the food chain but no dice.
9) TC - stupidly horrific die-cut cards.. both the mirror parallels and GU die cuts, but keeps the rainbow chasers busy for the first half of the year.

All these products suck as much as each other;
donruss, march madness, SPX, UD SPA, letterman...
 
I can't understand how Court Kings rates so high amongst collectors., and the my issues with the set are pretty much on point with "their" issues about other sets.
 
It may take you a while to warm to it?

I hated last years court kings.. I didn't like the designs at all. This year, something changed/

I agree with you in most ways.

But the Courtside set is a great chase card with the USA theme and the Patches this year are surprisingly awesome. I don't rate the rest, haha.

If I had the money to lose (possibly) I would have a go at a few boxes.

But these cards are best picked up in singles.

Are group breaks actually driving up prices?
 
I seriously think Flawless will be epic this year.

I'm one of those people that has sets really grow on them and for me Flawless is it. But I like base and the 13/14 base set was nicer IMO.

But there will be some huge cards this year. I've always been a big fan of the classic white, I just hate when it's overdone (which Panini does with Nat Treasures and in most of Flawless 12/13).

My family loves our new set of Prizm Dwight Powell rookie auto coasters. They are really good at protecting our benches from coffee stains!
