Delly v Atlanta Hawks Game 2 and 3, dirty play or hustle?

Fair suck of the sauce bottle guys! I am with @exzibit3 on this one!

There is no way Delly was just "trying to get up" and "accidentally locked legs with Gibson"!

That was an antagonistic move. I don't think he is a dirty player and never tries to injure people, but you are kidding yourself if you think that is a normal way to get up off the floor!.

Have you tried it? It's exactly like a burpee.

Who the hell has even heard of a leg lock before? I haven't. I doubt Delly is in to wrestling.

you dont need to have heard of the term 'leg lock' to realise that thats what hes doing. even if delly has never heard the word, it doesnt mean he didnt do it...
and i dont think anyone is saying you cant get up that way. just that its not common.
for me, he feels taj's leg/foot, glances back, and makes his move. he does see him (in peripheral vision) and its not a matter of split seconds. he has time to make his choice.
has he commented on it? did he say it was an accident? if so, i honestly believe hes a liar.

Ha ha. Yeah the guy that is a true Aussie battler in every sense also is the dirtiest player and a liar now. This "leg lock" wouldn't have hurt for one. Delly looked to be starting to let go once he realized. Taj kicked him up the butt. Who's the dirty player?

it's hilarious.

Although, if we keep seeing things like this happen, which we might because a lot of the Americans are soft, then I might change my mind.

I'm looking forward to more dirty textbook box outs in the finals.

Loved Delly's 1st qtr yesterday. 5 pts and drew an offensive foul.

im not commenting on whether hes dirty or not or if the leg lock hurt, which is highly unlikely (the taj reaction was over the top either way), just that in this particular play, he did it on purpose and if he denies it, then i believe (just my opinion) that hes lying. just because hes a 'battler' (whatever that means anyway) doesnt mean he wont ever make dubious plays.
plus, if 'battler' means hard working, never say die etc. that doesnt mean you cant be dirty aswell? i would class the detroit bad boys as battlers and they were as dirty as they come. but i may have the definition wrong...
and he only starts to let go when taj kicks out. he even lifts his legs as taj raises his...

How is the leg lock that Delly did any different from holding some ones arm while trying to rebound, or walking in front of someone and altering their course after the play...or grabbing a hand full of jersey. It's just an annoying move....

Ain't no-one getting hurt from it...

Blind Delly love Benny! You've gone mad mate!

Try doing a real burpee! You extend your legs, but to get up you have to pull them in to your body. You don't leave your legs stretched out while lifting your upper body up, and you certainly don't keep hold of a leg with your feet while they lift your legs off the ground.

You are over thinking it. There is no way he did it accidentally. There is also no way that he was trying to hurt someone with it. Just an antagonizing move that did everything he could have hoped for and more. He wasn't trying to get Gibson ejected, but he was trying to stir. He isn't the dirtiest player by a long way, more like cheeky and pestering like JJ Barea. If it says the leg lock was an accident, that makes him a liar in my books.

I'll admit there is a minute possibility that it wasn't on purpose, but no where near enough to be as confident as you are, and certainly not enough to be cocky about it too!

Maybe because the play was well and truly finished with. I think players take exception to being held onto after a dead ball too.

But you're right, it wasn't an injury risk, just trying to get under their skin..... and it worked!

Agree!

"he wasn't even looking! ", "well, maybe he doesn't need to see him but sheesh that's incredible timing if it was deliberate!", "okay fine, it's only for a split second though! ","wait, what's a leg lock??", "doubt he's into wrestling! ", "Fine! But I doubt the leg lock would hurt"..
It's gone around and around in circles, at complete tangents to what the original premise was. What on earth are the arguments like with your missus?

Yes, but the original premise was: Is Delly a dirty player/were these dirty plays. To me, none of the 3 was a dirty play. Pesky and annoying? The first 1 almost certainly was, the 2nd completely accidental/bad luck, the third I don't even know why we're discussing Delly getting pulled to the ground by Horford, then Horford getting pissy because Delly didn't do some kind of "matrix move" to stop in mid-air and somehow twist in the opposite direction from where gravity was taking him. As for the first incident, which I'll give you was probably fishing for a reaction, sport has a mental/psychological side, not just purely physical. It was the equivalent of a "head-rub" from an opposition player after you stuff up in footy. Is it annoying? Yes. But you're the one who dropped the ball, committed an illegal tackle, (or in the Gibson case fouled the crap out of an opposing player multiple times), you stuffed up, just own it... Delly could've flopped around on the floor like a fish, apparently this would be better to do then close your legs around the offenders leg as you get up and dust yourself off. If you can't control yourself emotionally, expect someone to notice and use that to their advantage.

Wasn't the Gibson "foul" on Delly an NoCall? I thought there was no common foul called, just the techs. Maybe that's why Delly grabbed his leg?

Don't talk about my missus you piece of sh*t.

I didn't read most of what you guys said because it's all the same.

You think Delly did it on purpose, I don't, simple.

That means you think he dove at Korver on purpose and horford on purpose too.

Yes, there were no fouls CALLED on Gibson, and THERE is the problem. Look at the replay and tell me there were no fouls COMMITTED by Gibson before the confrontation. I see 2: first the screen where Gibson turns his shoulder inward and forward into Delly, and secondly a clear and blatant shove in the back when Delly had him boxed out. Gibson was already on 5 fouls prior to that, so if the refs did their JOB and called a common foul on EITHER of those plays, we're probably not having this discussion...

No it doesn't. It means that I think he grabbed Gibson's legs with his feet on purpose. Absolutely NOTHING to do with Korver or Horford!

I agree, but that was my point. Gibson got away with the foul on Delly. I think Delly tried to just irk him a bit in frustration.

Yeah, I don't think we're too far apart on the subject, certainly not enough for me to keep arguing. Referee incompetence has let a lot of stuff go further than it should in many series, not just Cavs series. I just think it's a shame that this has led to large swathes of the basketball public labelling certain players dirty, others soft, etc.
