First Game Back....

Great to hear about blocks! I like the strip being a block - cos then if it's a small one u can count the rebound as well like they do in the nba!!

I'm getting a bit older and fatter but I am proud to say I pinned one to the backboard last game of last year!! I'm 6'5" and the guy was 75 yrs old but it still made me smile...

i must say ljandkg! that's abuse to the elderly!

damn, your 6'5, your hella tall man!

i'm only a small shooting guard.. i'd hate to be driving down your lane!!

You'll be showing them up soon Scotty once you get your match fitness levels up
Seems we have our own Big Al on Ozcards! I'm tall and I'm only 6'2!

I like to think of myself as the Marcus Camby of Ozcards....except with less injuries, tattoos and well ...talent

Actually being Big Al - I had a close connection with LJ when he was doing his BIG L in the Knicks last playoff run - We was tight!!!

Hey guys, sorry for the late update...

We played the first game (7:30pm).
We won what was originally a close game, until 2nd QTR started, when we started to break away. (don't forget this is not a HARD competition).

I didnt score much, think I had 2 layups, a FT, and a triple from about 1m behind the arc. I was up on the 45 trying to get someone to cut thru to dish off, no one would, I was un-guarded, since everyone else was hitting triples, thought I might try my luck. SWISH! It was crazy, I don't hit them (I don't attempt them either) in game, rather I practise them after games.

Anyways, not much else happend, had a couple of boards, and probably 2-3 strips. Pretty quiet.

Come 4th QTR, near the end of the game, my left calf was cramping, and I was getting another form of cramp down near my right ankle. It was strange. Anyways, game over, sitting down, and was asked to ref the 2nd game. No probs, we had 3 refs, so we were only walking about 10m to cover.

Got home, had a rubdown didnt fix. Had another on Friday night up at Danni's parents place, still not better now. Got a slight limp on it, and there's a hard lump in my calf muscle. Not sure if it's still cramp, of if there's a chance I've torn something. It is easing tho, so I'll have to think of it as cramp.

Season rank #1 (2-0).

Nice work Scotty....sound like you had a decent game....and the triple....wish i was there to see that.

In regards to your calf....maybe you should see a physio....especially if there is a lump?

Calf much better, ready to go another night tonight.

I'm pretty sure we've got a night off, well a night on, but an easy game.
But, we'll see what happens.

Well another victory last night. Was a bit easy tho, we played the cubs of the cave, the boys have put a tem together, and have only been playing in our comp for 2 weeks. So we tried to take it easy on them, won by 30+.

Wasnt that enjoyable, was more a run about for us. Bit of exercise/torture whatever you like to call it.

Best thing, no cramps this week!!!!

Didnt drop any treys last night, not that I was expecting to. I had plenty of chances to hit jumpers from the FT line, when ballhandling for the cutters, but no one would cut, and no one would defend me, so I refused to shoot it. There's something about easy games that I hate to take the "gimmes". Like fast breaks, I much prefer to try and help learn the younger ones.

Scored about 10 I think, a couple of easy layup-jumpers down low. Had a clean block, so was happy about that. Couple of boards, and a couple of dimes. Almost had a real sweet wrap-around the defender type dish, but it hit their knee, and turned it over. lol.

Ref'd the next game and got a bit of a preview of our next week's matchup (the 1st guys we played).

They've picked up 2 new guys, one was dressed like Iverson, and he IS QUICK! Pulled a few sweet dishes off, so was quite impressed. The other guy is quite tall, is a lefty, which I respect (as most Lefty's I know are pretty good), can JUMP, rebound, and score.

So we're in for a blaster next week! Stay tuned...

Season Rank #1 (3-0)

dissapointing scotty! don't make exscuses for not dropping 20+ in a 30+ point win!! :p jokes! winter basketball season has started for me.. playing my first game at the Brickpit tomorrow for school.

In our local comp (I call it the bruiser comp), it's very easy to keep your own stats. You play about 30/40 mins, and you never forget your defensive plays. As for rebounds, and assists, they're always guesses, but close ones!

The points, they're on the score sheet, so that's an easy one.

Awesome Jim, don't forget to post your game-wraps... just no 30 point, 20 assist games ok... ;)

hahah no worries champ! only had like.. 9 of them this past season! JOKES!

nawrhhh.. normally i play about 25-35 minutes.. out of usually 40 minute games, depending on the rotation, whether i'm playing school, club or reps and whether i'm having a good game or not!

in the backcourt i'm never really in foul trouble.. as a prediction high scoring games for me are usually around the 15-16 point mark, because the teams i play on are fairly balanced and don't have #1 or #2 options.

i'm a lockdown defender, at my best on the ball defending. usually lockdown whichever guard is causing the most trouble.

i'm not a point guard though, so don't get it wrong. i like to classify myself as a "combo guard", sort of like Ben Gordon in that i can play the 1 during the game if called upon, but spend most of my time on one of the wings.

i handle the ball a fair bit though, usually end up with around 12 points per game, 3 rebounds, 3-4 assist and 1-2 steals and blocks.

this past few months really been working on expanding my perimeter game, previously i was just known as a mid-range shooter and slasher, now i'm hitting some three's.

it's kind of funny, when i first played reps i was really one-dimensional and that season i didn't really improve from a skills point of view, apart from game experience. i think with age, the last 1- 1 1/2 years i've made the most improvements to my game, and they've strictly been through working hard, none of this political reps stuff.

Nice recaps Scotty! Which league do you play in? Can't remember any league near Claremont that plays on Wednesdays! ;) Goodluck for your game Jimbo! :)

Scotty, hope you don't mind me posting in this thread! If you'd prefer, just let me know and I'll put my own in a new thread!

Tonight was the first game of the winter season.

Played at the brickpit against a very talented team. I knew half the players in the team through reps and other clubs previously, their SG was the starting point guard of the Hornsby Under 18 Rep Divison 1 Team, so they were pretty talented.

We ended up losing 47-43, but there was a bit of an issue throughout the game.

Caught in a traffic jam, so came up late, but played about 20 minutes and finished with 8 points on 4/5 shooting. Didn't have time to warm up so came on straight cold, hit two jumpers from the short corner and then finished two driving layups, one which was meant to tie the game at 45-45.

Anyway, the score-bench had a problem, the score was 45-43, when I got my layup they put the points on the wrong side, putting it up to 47-43 instead of 45-45, and knowing local comps they didn't alter that decision.

So ended up being a bit of an annoying loss.

Not really a league, we play at New Norfolk, there's only 4 teams this season, it sucks really, but it's a game for me.

And I HATE playing at Moonah Stadium, as I usually end up being tech'd out, as the refs hate me. Oh that, and their courts are shit!!

Damn, at least we can get the refs to check it out, that sucks Jim.
