Melbourne Cup 2014

Who shot the barman you heard it here first

*please note I am terrible at horses and really have no idea so I don't recommend following any of the above advice , however is by far the best name in the field.

We did, he ran quite well!

Also the Admire Rakti saga is tragic, from favourite to last to well...

again the issue of animal cruelty for entertainment will come up but it will never change.

I dunno what caused it's collapse, but 21 other horses didn't collapse in the race, and another 100+ who raced today in other races were ok too. More likely another reason other than animal cruelty causing it's death I dare say. Rather wait for the autopsy rather than speculate on his reason of death.

I don't really know how I feel about it either way but I mean the initial point made by some is that horses should be roaming free not trained to trot and parade around, jump over wooden barriers, and race on a track for the entertainment and wagering of man.
But I digress, for this you'd have to bring up the argument of it's been done since forever, discuss that some get treated better and live longer than the average, we eat other animals and some eat horse anyway, and the whole sentient being concept, who's the master/most intelligent yadayadayada. Anyway, maybe I'll stop there otherwise some wild debate will get sparked and the thread closed lol

It's an interesting topic because what started me thinking was one of my friends had a RIP Admire Ratki post on facebook and discussing it within there and then a few posts earlier she had how she and the kid were scouring the form guides deciding who to bet on.

And it prob came up last year too wasn't it, when they had to put that one down out in the middle of the track.

haha all valid points! Talk to a vegetarian (my sister) and she thinks I am a crim for loving steak!

While the death of the horse today was sad, lets not forget the 2 young jockeys that lost their lives in the past few weeks as well.

All sports have risks, people have seen soccer players falling over and dying mid game, i've heard of cricketers doing the same, surely horses can also suffer the same fate.

Its sad, but as people have said these things happen.

Cheers
Matt

More sad news :(

MELBOURNE Cup runner Araldo has been put down several hours after suffering an injury it sustained on its way back to the stalls post-race.
The Mike Moroney-trained stallion lashed out and kicked a fence after being spooked by a child waving a flag.

Forget about animal cruelty people. These are the most pampered creatures on Earth. All horses run and jump, that's what horses do. In the wild, horses run and they jump over stuff. In the wild sometimes horses fall, sometimes they get injured, sometimes they get attacked by other animals and when they have nothing to eat, they starve. None of this happens to thoroughbreds. They are well fed, well groomed and well treated by professionals.

I'll disagree just for the hell of it lol - they don't run and jump over a fence landing in a pool of water over and over again or jump over metal poles and break their shins (do horses have "shins") and they don't prance around doing leg raises and poses. I just think it's ridiculous and I'm almost ashamed I know the word Dressage.....

I don't follow this crap any other day than Melbourne Cup unless a mate is having a punt at a lunch one time we're out so just making convo here ;)

How many toads lose their lives because of toad racing? But no one cares :(

Reminds me of a show my kids were watching the other day, an old cartoon called Curious George, and they were cheering and doing worm racing. I was like wow this is so bad
