EBay Seller of the Month

It's disappointing when players such as norm provan, sattler, aren't appreciated by my generation or younger. I was born in the 90's but I love watching the old games and meeting players from past and present just to see their different perspectives of the game and understand/ appreciate how much the game has evolved. That and also something me and my dad could share an interest in, even though I decided to support the eels instead of the dragons.

I still recall my late pop and dad talking about Gasnier & Irvine, Chook's toughness, Changa's white boots. I am an 81 model but will forever cherish these discussions which started my love of league. I am lucky enough to say I watched the King okay heaps of BRL games, that Wynnum team of the mid 80's was awesome!!

One of the more disappointing things about the new breed of collectors is their unwillingness to take advice about the hobby from guys who possess and have seen every high end card in existance.

I was born in 1976. Until I watched Fibros vs Silvertails a few years ago, the 1970's seemed alien to me. Sure, I had a love of the game and history, but really, I had NFI. Once I actually started doing my own reading and research, I came to really want to see more. Watching old 70's games in colour is fantastic. Actually caught the 1975 Grand Final for the first time during GF week on Fox and it no longer is just a scoreline of 35-0 and white boots to me. It's a living, breathing footy game. Best thing for a kid - or an adult - is to go looking for old games or read the older bios/year books.

I wish I hadn't traded my 1994 signed Mal Meninga Supporters Choice card for handful of beans. I was 19 at the time. Regrets, I've had a few. Wonderful traders/sellers, I've had a lot.

I think this is why I am hell bent on putting together a master set of 08 Centenary, this set has that nostalgic feeling of yesteryear about it. I am a long way off though!

watching that game on the day, I really felt like crying and that was at half time. I wanted to tear my jersey to pieces but I thought better and kept it.
I only had to wait 2 years for another premiership and kept my ticket as well.

I'm feeling older by the minute reading your posts, I began collecting cards as a twelve year old in 1968. My dad owned a corner shop and I can still vividly remember getting the boxes and opening the packs (which weren't sealed) until I had the complete sets of my footy heroes. Luckily I stored these away in shoe boxes until my collecting fire was rekindled in the '80's. Since then I have sold off many but have kept every card of my much loved Dragons from 1966 to the present day.
My most cherished memories are of the great Players of the Dragons golden era such as Provan, Gasnier, Raper, Langlands, Smith etc. I think your childhood heroes always seem to have the greatest impact on your lasting memories of this great game we follow

I am with you.
I go to bed dreaming of a centenary master set.

I.m almost 50 and i loved sitting around the table listening to my grandparents talk about Raper Provan Gasnier Langlands. Abdul king but billy smith was my hero.
My pops best mate was Darcy lawler and Keith page was the best man and my grandparents weeding so as a youngster i had the opportunity to go with my grandparents to get together's and meet all my heroes this is something i will cherish the rest of my life.

i really think this is somewhere where the NRL/ARL/NSWRL really need to step up, with the age of digital media why cant they make these avaliable on lets say itunes at $2.99 a game or $4 for a International/Origin match or GF, i know i would purchase heaps of those old games from the 80's and 90's just to watch over and over again, (hell i would even buy more modern games as well been some great ones over the decades)

its something that is missing, the ease of acess to historyand as a fan of the game i would love watching old games.

I believe this is something that is being done. The company that use to do 'pick a match' DVDs has shut it's site and they have merged with NRL and from what I was told, content will become available digitally.

Totally agree with you! Having seen the way Sattler carried himself during grand final week, the man is a class act. On another note I heard that Provan hasn't been in the best of health recently after a fall.

Cheers
Matt
