EBay Seller of the Month

It is possible all it takes is one employee to find the secret stash use the stamper they have there and boom you have extra cards.
It would not be the first it has happened
I would not simply suggest it was an employee, but anyone in the public could have easily done it, as we know there are a lot of scammers out there, and as suggested prior, there could be a few can of worms ready to be opened.

That is a good point but it would be hard to number something that is all ready numbered, as they would have renumber the card that is already stamped.
The other possibility is someone has fully faked the cards to look exactly like the originals which would be no small feat and then stamp them.
I would say it could possibly be a inside job.

I spoke to the owner of the Toovey card & he told me Grant had contacted him & told him his card is legit because it came-out of a packet & the ones that are all No13 have been re-stamped by somebody.. He then told him that there was 20 sets produced Unnumbered 15 sets went to each player & 2 sets to the NRL & the other 3 they held in-case they had to replace damaged cards..

As for the numbering it is not done by Select they send them away to be specially done by a professional. This makes sense as we all remember the gold league leaders from 2012 Dynasty that we sent back to Select & they had them redone which took up to 3 to 5 weeks
to get back as Select sent them down to Melbourne in batches to be re-stamped.

This would be hard to do as Grant mentioned to the guy who has the other card that to get the colouring & shades spot-on is near impossible as ink & cardboard would be hard to match from 2006 when these were produced...

This has answered a lot of my questions and basically has answered every thing.
One of the players could have given or sold a set to friend/family member then sold them on again.
Or some one at NRL could have done the same, then who ever received the cards got them stamped claimed they were legit and sold them.
Makes sense to me.

I agree could have been player issued unnumbered ones if they released them or spares for replacement that some how got out. It is a bit stange to me that vk group a that sold these to Owen in the 1st place is not answering anything at the moment. Anybody know him Hello Don you out there. Tell us what happened

Yes it does make sense, i totally agree
So we really never know how many cards of anything are out there, until something goes wrong, which is a real slight on the industry.

I know i have a lot of select signatures some pulled from packets and some bought from ebay card shows and so on.
I have checked over all my numbers on the back and i can say not one number is out of place as select had good quality control.

Good detail, and may help explain how a legit card got onto the market, but as you say you don't know Grant, you've never met him or spoke with him, so I am eager for Select to formally respond themselves to these points:
  • Were there duplicate numbered cards produced at production?
  • How many duplicated unnumbered cards produced?
  • Can you account for them all?

I don't think we can conclude a lot yet because all we know at this point there a duplicates on the market of the number 13, even Grant basically admits fake cards themselves would be very unlikely. I'd still like to see the back of the Toovey for my own interest.

The other big question:
  • Who's Don?
Isn't he the source of our introduction to these cards?

Ross

Is this situation why the recent top prospects had "player" written on them?

I forgot to mention earlier that this was explained to me by the holder of the other card that Grant told him that the player was put on the back of the cards so they couldn't be stamped with No's like the one in question.... From memory the player stamped cards started to appear with the Strike release back in 2011.

I could of sworn he was a banned user, when I saw a few old comments from him a couple of weeks ago. I'm sure it was him with a line through his name. Might have been a temporary ban or just my mistake.
