I corresponded with SEP and they have written to me via email confirming they will not be producing either a BBL 2014/15 set OR a World Cup set.

Probably having something to do with the cricket licence being open for submissions as we speak.

Cheers
Matt

Not sure about cricket, but the NRL charges a fee of 15% wholesale sale prices as their licensing fee.

They get you to put in a proposal of what you think you would sell and then estimate what the fee would be. In some cases they will ask that this be paid upfront.

Cheers

Yep no cards for this BBL or the World Cup but last time I was there they had some really exciting Cricket memorabilia they were working on for the up coming summer and for the World Cup.

@Matt26 Licensing fee's seems about the same as NRL.

What's your definition of exciting Raj?

I was quoted 20% by Cricket Australia for licensing, had I used actual images of the players on my cards. Like Matt said, they also mentioned up-front payment of projected sales to ensure they don't miss out if the project tanks.

Hi Naz, did you get the feeling that if you had coughed up the 20% that CA were after that they would have let you use images on your cards?

I think the question really should be, 20% of what amount buys you this privilege. CA instructed me to work with their licensee (I won't name names), who at the time showed zero interest in my project and I reckon I would have had to have a LOT of dough on the table to be taken seriously. With no reputation preceeding me and a shoe-string budget, I don't think I was ever going to be allowed to play with the big boys.

In light of all this, what I did end up achieving, I am darned proud of. The Hadlees and Greg Chappell were incredibly kind to me and I pinch myself at what I was able to accomplish on my own.

I still dream of being able to take that extra step towards a Futera-like product, but I don't think my pockets will ever be deep enough to be able to risk this.

I have found CA and the NRL have zero understanding or care factor when it comes to merchandising as long as they make big $$$$$$ for no work. Have peppered both for years with DVD ideas and nada. They certainly need to take a good look at the AFL and US sports for professionalism.
