hey blokes, what's up?

i'm looking to get a 1/1 sketch or two from leaf. can anyone tell me how rare these are and what the ratio per pack was for each card? will post a pic if anyone can help.

lmk, thanks.

I don't normally collect sketch cards but recently I saw a Magic Johnson 1/1 Leaf card on ebay and the fact that it is a 1/1 AND it's a hand drawn one of a kind sketch of Magic in the world, had to add one to my collection =)

I'm a big fan of Chris 'Birdman' Andersen of Miami and saw this as well and bought it. Not from any card manufacturer for some guy from the US who has great artwork. It was drawn on a thicker trading card material and on the back he titled it and signed it.

yeah, they're cool since they're true 1/1s. however, i seem to see them in bunches when they are offered.

just how rare (or easy) are these to get?

Well they obviously can't be if there is 2 of the same card as my Ray Allen example shows.

There are some small differences between them, so not exactly identical, but if the same artist is drawing the same sketch picture twice, its not a true 1/1 in the sense of the word 'true'.

gotcha. nobody answered me though on exactly how many there are per box.

Might not be "true", but they are still 1/1s in the way printing plates are 1/1s even though there's always going to be at least four of them.

fwiw even revered artists do multiple versions of their work

good to hear. coz i am looking to pay a good price on a wilt.

LOL, printing plates are understandable, you need multiple colors to make up a card.

The painting, whilst a touching piece of history - has nothing to do with basketball cards.

I've shown proof that the same Leaf artist sketched the same Ray Allen picture with the same colors and wrote 1/1 on both of them.

You'll be happy, until the day you see the same sketch card for sale somewhere with 1/1 written on it.

Ben although the particular artist you pointed out may have sketched similar cards of Ray Allen in the same pose it still constitutes it to be a 1/1 because it's not a duplicate, meaning to say 'exactly the same' as if it were a mass produced 'copy' where every single card is exactly the same. The fact that each one is hand drawn from scratch means that every single sketch card would have variations, and that each were drawn on a different day/time etc unlike a particular card mass produced, it takes hours (from what I've read 3-5hrs) to sketch a single card. And I am sure not every artist will sketch similar cards of the same player such as the Ray Allen variations. Still these are pretty cool and unique pieces of art.

These cards are seeded one per box. There are multiple sketches of the same pose, but since they are not machine printed, they are all unique, hence the 1/1 tag.

Yes, that is true. But personally I still do not consider the card a 1/1

A few different brush/pen strokes when an artist is trying to sketch the same pose of the same person is not unique.

I believe its false scarcity. Especially when you pulling them from a high-end box, you should expect a true 1/1
