Advice on NBA cards to start collecting

Hello fellow collectors,

after finally completing my Scanlens collections after 20 long years and many thousands of $ later and a disgusted wife who thinks I'm a big kid still

I'm now looking to collect some NBA, mainly for the fun side of it and the thrill of going for a good hit, and it brings back memories of my teenage years in the late 80's early 90' of collecting NBA cards .

what I have come across is there are just SO MANY damn choices to choose from with Panini, which I understand are the only ones to do the current NBA players, UD are college I've been told

Now I'm happy to spend between $100 - $200 a box and like the ability to not only collect the insert cards but a decent common set as well. any with old NBA stars are preferable

I've looked at a few options, but would love the advise of you seasoned NBA collectors
this is what I've looked at so far,

are they any good? or can you suggest something better, a bit of info would be greatly appreciate,

I'm going into hospital next week for a week and would love to make some sort of decision before then so I can order some boxes as I'm going to be off work for several weeks.

I personally would bust Select. Great range of vets and rookies, the inserts are pretty awesome, great value and good odds of hitting a legend on card auto. The refractors are a great look, especially the purple.

Select or Crusade are probably the best to sink your teeth into to get a feel for it. Mid Range products with lots of nice hits to be had.

I agree with this.

Select is real nice.

Prizm is next in line IMO.

so my boxes of Prizm arrived today, so like a kid in a candy store went crazy and opened them up, box 1 hand full of red and green prizm, but no Auto ??? side of box says 2 auto per box, so figured i must have just got a dud
ripped into box 2 handful of red and green prizm last packet pulled splitter red auto 8/49 but again just one auto,

feeling abit ripped off going by there own wording on there boxes there should have been 2 autos per box??

is this a common thing or did i just have really shit luck

You sure you didn't pick up a retail box? Like Matt pointed out the reds usually appear in retail boxes, they don't usually have a ratio of 2 autos per box.

got the boxes from ebay america , looking at the pictures the boxes didnt have the panini logo on the outer plastic and the packets where a mix of silver and black packs ? is this right

get the feeling i may have been duped in what i actually got

I could be wrong here, but packs are always the same colour, aside from the one Kobe black pack.

The different colour packs does sound a little strange indeed.

If you are planning on more boxes in the future it might pay to use one of the guys on here, at least that way you would be guaranteed factory sealed boxes.

@cherrycollectables (Melbourne) or @Mr Paparazzi (Adelaide) should be able to sort you out

i think i will take that advice especially the adelaide one,

i contact the ebayer and "apparently" the mixed boxes where for a different customer, hes offered me a refund minus $50 if want to keep the stuff i allready got,

not knowing value of the red and green cards or the red prizm splitter Auto ? i dont know if its a good deal or not or if i should just sent it all back and start again

Grrrrr kinda annoyed as this was my first venture back into NBA since late 80's early 90's
