No doubt this thread may cause some interesting discussion, but who do you think is the best player in the AFL today?
Love to hear what everyone thinks!
Cheers

Thanks @Matt26 for the idea from NRL

For me -

ABlett - above and beyond the competition. A ball magnet and so clever every time he touches it.

and if I had to pick a second:
Pendlebury - ability to win his own ball. Seems to have time (like Hird used to) every time he touches it

Perhaps you could start a poll?

Anyway the best player today in my opinion is definitely Gary Ablett. Freak, about to be a triple-Brownlow medallist, constantly racks up 35 touches, probably one of the top 3 players ever.

After this weekend I'd put Pendlebury over Ablett.

Pendlebury's composure and ability to move effortlessly in congestion are magnificent, whereas Ablett often bites off more than he can handle and sometimes games the system for free kicks.

Ablett also needs to start trusting the players around him more. He burned Matera this weekend looking for his own slice of glory and it didn't pay off.

Also the Collingwood/West Coast game comes to mind, Pies on the ropes and Pendlebury lifted when the game was there to be won, put the team on his back and carried them over the line.

Gary Ablett Jnr, although im slightly bias as I mostly only watch Suns games... Im an NRL fan over AFL and know very little about AFL but Ablett is the kind of player that makes me want to watch more.

Ablett massssssssive gap then you can start getting into the others... Would be better to hear who you think the best player is without ablett....

I think for sheer "numbers", Ablett is streets ahead. However I think that for actual impact on the game Scott Pendlebury would be my pick.

The general consensus seems to be Ablett and Pendlebury in which I agree. (and I am a one eyed pie supporter)
IMHO, what puts Ablett on top is the ability to get the hard ball where Pendlebury doesn't... yet Pendles does have silky smooth skills.

Another interesting question one could start a thread on is " Who do you Nominate as a future brownlow medalist within the next 10 years " I say 10 as many of todays younger players need quite a few years to mature to the levels of the current guns....

although it would be different if i was starting a new club today or every player was in the draft pool and i had to select at one. Just based on age

Really Dangerfraud

He is over rated. I cant believe all the AFL writers rate him in the top five.

So you have better credentials then all AFL writers?
logic would say that they are the ones who get it right.

As to gaz, please he gets massive amounts of cheap 1-2's that make his stats look super impressive. I'm not saying He's not a absolute gun because he is, but I see the best as a player that goes in hard for the ball, explodes from packs, can't be tackled, great contested mark, lifts their team, great long kick and can play just about anywhere on the ground.

You guys will most probably think I'm biased being a crows supporter but I feel danger has Gaza covered in most of those area's.

Just out of interest freshjay who do you support?

The way i look at it is, IF all the teams were to put every player into the draft and start from scratch, who would teams pick.
IMO danger wouldnt even be in the top 10 players picked up first. Forgetting age and what not
