I just read that the big three plan to opt out of their current contracts and take less money to try and get Melo onto the team.

I say let them do it Melo is a cancer to teams and him and Kobe are probably the 2 players in the league that always need the ball in their hands.

What's your thoughts?

Are the Heat really so insecure that they need a 4th Superstar?

I think Melo would be great with Lebron. He's not the terrible defender he used to be and he'd be a match up nightmare with his shot.

I totally disagree Melo is a cancer, the guy kills it and if you traded Melo for Bosh than the Heat would be unbeatable.

I would expect the Heat Franchise to be inspected for paying guys under the table because there's no way these guys take that much of a paycut.

Florida is one of 7 US states (Texas being another) that has no personal income tax, so they are taking home quite a lot of that pay-check.
Not sure what the income tax is in other states though to compare it with.

I'd personally hate to see Melo go there.

As much as I like the Heat team and what they've done, I'd like to see the big3 either; split up this off-season and go their separate ways, or stay the way they are and get solid role players, not another superstar.

Bron is hated enough for his perceived 'weakness' of not getting it done in Cleveland.. he'll never shed the moniker if he gets another tier 1 franchise player on his team.

The tax breaks are huge, I remember back when the Vancouver grizzles where around, they had cap space galore but free agents only went their if they way over paid them because their tax was %20, makes it a hard sell

This is what will kill the nba, are players now days scared to try win on their own, waters down any championship when you have to go chasing the championship on another team in your prime

I don't think 'scared' is the term.

More likely they see the benefit in not having to carry a team all the way and get knocked out every year in the semis... or struggle to even make the post-season. Joining up with another franchise player on a solid team nearly garantees you'll make it.

Superstar players now in their 7th-10th year are realising that they only have a few prime to good years left.. and probably think will I ever win a chip??
They shouldn't care what the rest of the world thinks about jumping teams through FA, they should be thinking about looking after numero uno, whether thats big pay-check or winning the NBA's big banana.

When you used to play basketball at school and you were picking teams...

Did you want to play on the same team as the guy that is lazy on defense and throws up airballs all the time, or the guy that can rebound and pass well and score at will?

I remember when I was at school I never wanted to have the other really good players on my team because I wanted to be the guy that beat them.

I wanted to win with the team I was with because it was more rewarding, to me personally I think it's better to struggle and break thru and win a ring even if it's just one, than to hitch my cart to someone else's team and win, it would not be as rewarding, because even if you win 3 or 4 rings their always going to have an * next to them, *(could not win it being the star, so went and won a ring being someone's bitch) lmao, that's only my thoughts tho, just wish players showed abit more loyalty now day, loyalty created some wicked rivalry's lakers/celtics, nicks/pacers, bulls/pistons, since all this player jumping started theirs no real rivalry

There might be a 1% chance of Melo going to the Heat, but it sounds like there is a 90% that he will NOT be with the Knicks next year. Bulls and Rockets sound like they have the best chance of either fitting him in under the salary cap (Melo will have to take a huge paycut either way), or otherwise a sign and trade to a different team, but I like Bulls chances best.

This would be an absolute joke! I think I heard pay cuts would need to be $6m each for James, Wade and Bosh and $9m for Melo for it to work, unless they lose others off the roster? I still see a huge weakness at PG and C/PF so they are certainly not a guarantee, but should be hot favourite!

NBA needs to restrict the amount of money players can receive in endorsement if they take pay cuts. The Heat big 3 are still killing it with other pay days to offset the cuts. It is a tough one to police, but uu can't start manipulating the rules to make a EPL situation!

Yeah as a heat fan I don't like this at all.
Melo is a awesome scorer, but I don't think scoring is our problem, its rebounding.
I would much prefer they go after Kevin Love instead of Melo.
Most likely Rockets would send Parsons & Lin or some package like that.
But Melo leaving New York would hopefully put the focus back on Amare being the superstar and JR should (key word - should) have a breakout season better then his 6th man award year.
Man I love the offseason.
Here is hoping to no injured superstars like Rose or Kobe etc

As a heat fan I also hope this doesnt happen. I cringe at all the more criticism we will be copping. Its fairly obvious a better outcome is the big3 opting out, then signing smaller contracts, then boost our weakest points. Bench, a big man, maybe a pg although I think thats less important seen as cole and Chalmers are 'usually' capable and lebron distributes so well.
Greg monroe is a free agent right? Thats the kind of signing id rather see. No disrespect to melo.

Melo would be stupid to leave, because he wont get as much money elsewhere...I agree with Shaun, the big three if they reunite need a better supporting cast, some bigs, a better point guard etc....think was talk that Miami were interested in kyle lowry, that could be a nice addition, maybe lance Stephenson? lol...
I personally think the era of the big three is over, wade will probably stay as he has guaranteed big dollars and wont get a big contract elsewhere, same with bosh, he may stay and try and make something of his talent, lebron is gone for my money, Chicago or Cleveland or maybe even a sign and trade like the talked about griffin for lebron deal...

If the big 3 all opt in for their 20mil each next 2 seasons, its true, there won't be much money left for a supporting cast.

But why should they opt out and take less.?? The big 3 only have a 15 year window to make their cash... 10 of which are already gone.

If Micky Arison wants to win he'd best be opening the wallet up. He is rich as feck... he owns Carnival cruise lines, he could have a bigger payroll than Prokorov if he wanted to.
