SigPig banned from Parra Stadium

This is how the players look at it one no problem 2 ok,3 on the edge anything after that is seen as selling because they normally only bring out 2 sets a year which will mean if you don't see a team for 2 years and they know its,its cool but anymore than that is seen as selling.
A couple of years ago one team would only sign one item per person that way they would sign something for everyone but would not sign more than that.If you are in sydney, they remember who gives them a lot of cards,as i hear it from some of the players all the time,i have been their and seen players look at collectors with that look, this only happened a few weeks ago and i said to this player no this guys a collector and he signed all his cards with his full signature.
The other problem is theses guys just get sick of seeing the same cards all the time so you do need to mix them up.
The 2 others things that players hate are if you need cards signed in silver do them they don't like changing from one marker to another, the main thing they don't like is if you are getting a few things signed taking photos of them signing items they don't like that but they don't mind if you take a photo with them they don't mind that.

This sucks. I was just getting into the whole signed cards thing and now they're gonna ban it.
The problem for me is that I have like 7 Sutton and Inglis cards all from different years but I don't want to push it and only give them 1 to sign which is hard coz I don't live close by.

I must admit, people selling autos fullstop grates me. This is now the end result, players refusing to sign.

Get them for your PC by all means, but to profit off them is pretty ordinary form.

I agree completely. I think we will eventually see the day where signing sessions become regimented across the board in the major football codes - one item per person and the signature has to be dedicated (eg "To Matt" etc).

Greed, as it does in most aspects of life, will be the cause of this.

The NRL'll will have to make sure all their employees are undertaking schooling then.

Too many rugby league players cut school to kick a footy and wonder why they can't write their own name.

:-)

That said, if they're going to charge for a sig, I'm not paying for squiggles. I got 26 sigs on Saturday and spent half of Sunday trying to figure out who 24 of them are. At least Nathan Merritt and John Sutton write their name.

I love getting sigs and hate sig pig. I love the personal aspect to it to the point i wont sell buy or trade sigs because everyone i have, ive gotton personally and can tell the story behind it. i can understand the players and clubs frustrations and believe they too hate sig pigs. I generally believe they dont mind siging a card or 2 for collectors. Now, heres what u may deem to be a stupid idea but, what if OCT had some collectors wrist bands made up for our purchase, maybe 5 bucks. We can where this when chasin sigs and players will recignise the true collectors from the pigs. I only ever take one card at a time but stil feel as tho some players think my intentions are bad. Just some thoughts and a silly idea for your discussion....

.

You're not wrong. I asked Josh Dugan to personalise a card to my brother-in-law, Dean. I got the card back off him and it said 'To Dave'

Love the idea mate. Ozcard working in conjunction with the Clubs & NRL. Being in my 30's I often feel some players think I'm a seller when handing them just one card. But when I say please an thank you & many then can actually see the excitement in my face after they have signed my card (especially if it's one I have been chasing for awhile) they usually then smile and say no worries & I think some then realise I'm just a crazy mad footy collector :D
I too am happy to pay players/clubs for signatures & if that's how it will stop sig pig sellers then I'd be all for it ;)

Im in the exact same boat mate. Was alot easier when i was 15 n could actually get 3\4 cards signed at once. Like many i have mutiples of each player but stil only take one nowdays. The hard part is pickin which one to take. Thanks for the second on my idea lol

Again, there is a mountain of signed cards sold on this site or traded for other stuff - basically, used as money!! I have no problem if it was traded signed card for signed card...
But it's not always the case.

Yea perhaps not but if we did have a collectors wrist band and some common ground rules like giving no more then 2 cards to a player. Then players & Clubs were tipped off about what the collectors are doing to try and minimize people profiting from sigs then maybe perhaps with a little time,, recognized collectors can do what they love & players & clubs can have confidence in whats happening with the majority of cards being signed....
Even if the sig pigs were on here and got their own band they would be limited by the ground rules.

I think it is more the volumes of cards that sig pigs are getting and selling (20+) week in and week out that is the problem for the NRL clubs and players. I wouldnt be able to collect my signed sets without the help of IP sig collectors on here and ebay. It is a lot better when IP sigs are traded rather than sold but as Robbie said, this isn't always the case. For the most part, I don't think there are too many IP sig collectors that have intent to sell IP sigs when they are obtaining them, circumstances and collections change along the way. I guess the best way to keep everything a little on the level if you do intend to make profit from IP sigs is to further reinvest in other NRL merchandise or more cards, that way the money is being recirculated in NRL circles and keeps the game financially healthy for all.

You would probably be better to push back something via ESP. They have a relationship with the NRL.

No doubt about it. Perhaps if there was some consensus on such or similar an idea then It would be worth putting forward. Maybe better coming from someone thru here with a good relationship with ESP aswell...

You are absolutely on the money Curtis. There is a total difference in getting signatures off players on Friday night and then wacking them on Feebay Early Saturday morning to make money, as compared to the person who gets signatures on Friday night with the intent to better their PC by trying to swap the doubles to fill gaps in the PC. Then by one way or another is asked if they would consider selling because they don't have any trade.

I don't sell signed NRL cards on Ebay. But I have sold a few at more than reasonable prices to other collectors on OCT as a last resort because they didn't have anything to trade. I have never asked an NRL player for a signature with the intent to profit off it, yet I am looked at and catagorized by some players in the same groups as these other niff nuffs like Coastsport, Goldenpoint, Rooster_pugs or is it Bradley9551, DK trading cards, Allstar signatures, gojojo64. These sorts of morons have all but zapped the energy in the hobby. Both the players and the collectors.

As for Coastsport, someone mentioned he gets a lot of older players like Meningas and so on. He has people working all over the place with contacts down in Sydney. I've seen him "the actual Coastsport guy Gary, I think his name is" at Men of League events getting the older stuff and the newer stuff I think he leaves in the hands of a blonde girl, maybe his daughter, and a weedy looking guy who must take all the kids in the neighbourhood to the airport with them, then take them to Maccas for their efforts afterwards. A lot of the Titans are well aware of who the Ebayers are because I make an conscious effort to point them out when I can. IM ONLY TOO HAPPY TO :D

Anyways, just off the top of my head, that's my piece. Its late, Im sick, Im off to bed. I will look forward to further debate in this topic when Im not tired and sick so I can think about my responses a bit better.

Cheers guys and happy collecting.
