We just signed Dave Smith too, So no chance we will ever get caught,
Cmon guys just read the dogs roster and weep! Still doesnt mean we will win a premiership, But if we do, Ill be ready for all of your whining!

No matter how big your pack you still have shitty halves.

Fifita signs for $550k now, when they release him in 2 years, he'll have been on $850k.

Barba signed for not much, but him leaving left a $1.2m hole in the doggies cap.

LOL.

Geez I chuckle.

Good on 'em though.

"But... But.. But CANTERBURY'S signing all the GOOD players!!!" ;p haha

des loves the old back ended contract doesn't he
i'm sure toovey is loving the mess he left at manly for him
No doubt. But it is a tactic that quite a few teams use. Until the NRL clamps down on it, (which maybe they should) not much that can be done. Gasniers contract was a joke, as was the $1 contract some player signed a few years ago as a fill-in. But if a team can bend the rules without breaking them, good luck to them...

Tigers, Dragons & Raiders are putting forward a proposal to the NRL whereby they will receive compensation if juniors they cultivate and pay for are poached

Which might be fair enough. But would then they also be keeping their hands off OTHER teams juniors? Your players have to come from SOMEWHERE, and unfortunately, rugby league in Australia is now less a sport and more a buisness...

True but I would assume the teams mentioned are of the belief that they don't really poach other clubs juniors a whole lot or else they would be liable for said compensation

Maybe. I don't study player movements and trends religiously enough to give an informed opinion. I just think everyone feeds on SOMEBODY, so attempting to take yourself off someone else's menu while still feeding off others would be disingenuous... ;)

But yes, it would suck if you took a 5 year old all the way up to the league before Holden Cup, whatever that's called, then have teams continually swoop on your top-line talent, I agree...

I think that how poaching is defined in the proposal would be pivotal. For example you wouldn't consider Fifita a poaching as he wasn't a sharks junior but Lichaa yes and same with Milford.

Yeah, I don't know much about Lichaa, other than he was one of the sigs last year, and Sharks fans are unhappy he's leaving, so he must be good. The Milford thing I know more about his history, so that I understand... What about a "first right of refusal", or is that already the rule? I can see where you're coming from, but equally it would suck if a team with the current Andrew Johns (just an example), had the NEXT Andrew Johns stashed, ready to play, but wouldn't get consistant minutes for a few more years. Where another team could use him straight off the bat...
