NRL2000 All Star Signatures Set with Gasnier Sig

I think with so many sets released now, people are focusing on a small area rather than the whole high end cards.
Eg collecting their team, collecting a year their team won, (eg 2003 panthers,) collecting a certain player or even certain number of a card (ie 36 I believe!!)
I cant see anyone ever paying near top dollar for say a complete 2004 set. as an example.
So with such a set like this one $2500 is a far price but with so many teams you are taking out large percentage of people prepared to pay that much.
Reckon if it went on ebay starting at 1 cent, in seven days right now.... in how econmy is, just after xmas etc, I would be surprised if it reached $1200.
People like cardzone set high prices and are prepared to hang onto it for years till that particular right buyer passes along. One day the right buyer would pay $2500.
Card collecting Is certainly a fun hobby and I love it but I truly don't see it as much of an investment any more.

I would say that there is always a market out the for quality. I would assume that for the majority of us, if we could, would have a set of all the same number any day of the week over a set of mix numbers. It's all about the $$$ though.

At this higher end of the market though there are not to many guys that can plonk down that sort of money and the ones that can will drive a pretty hard deal.

In saying that though in the survey I ran on ASCC 25% of people still identified themselves as master set collectors. I was surprised there was that many.

Inserts $5-$15
Signatures $80-$120 depending on player, i picked these up within the last 3 months for even lower (Menzies $67, Kimmorely $80 and one other for $70 odd)
Reg $1200

I put this set together with mixed numbers as well paid $80 and under for 8 of the set and $110 for mark gasnier.
Reg still to come.
I think 2.5 k for Dans set with the same numbers would be fair.

I understand what you are saying and agree with it. Although I still believe it is a good investment to buy high end as there will always be collectors of nrl cards and as the population grows so will the collectors. Population has growths. It tends to boom in Australia roughly every 20 yrs. As with shares cards are a long term investment. If you believe they go up or inflation takes the price guide. As with nice 63 or 64 scanlens that have increased in value over the yrs. Australia has not seen what limited edition numbered cards to 100 or 200 could do when there are 1000 collectors trying to find a team player or trying to collect a whole set of them. It may take 30yrs for 1000 collectors keen to have 1 them. But if you told reg gasnier in 1964 that his card in 2008 could be worth $1000. He would have asked you if you were on acid or drank moonshine alcohol.
