One non-NRL player - Danny Brough - and he was absolutely outstanding at the World Cup. Totally deserved, imo!

Ben Cummins as ref of the year is a total joke though, he was absolutely atrocious in the NZ-England semi last weekend!!!

yeah brough was quality in the world cup obviously cant comment on his super league form but maloney had an outstanding year as well, maybe if he won the origin series he might've got it.

Unfortunately I think in awards like this they always try to look for reasons to not give an NRL player the award rather than reasons to give it. I think this has been the case for a long time and even though there are clearly quite a few better #6's in the NRL than Brough, they all had some minor glitches in their seasons.

Maloney was money all year, next to JT & Foran he was outstanding. Most Super League players are over rated. Theres no Super League player in the RLWC Final.

One game makes him the best all year?

Corey parker, Are you serious.

Care to elaborate on that?
Cemented his spot in origin, led the league in offloads, 2nd in hitups and making the most of his time off the bench in the world cup.
Dont see whats not to like about his season aside from the fact Broncos had a disappointing year.

*Not biased in anyway, shape or form :P

Maloney was fairly poor in his big stage of Origin I thought, stood up in the gf though. I'd say he'd have to make the Australian squad to realistically be considered, though.

Have to agree with this but only in the sense that they're looking for reasons to not give it to an NRL player. They want to make it look "International" to maintain credibility. Maloney really had to make the Aus team to be in with a sniff after losing in the Origin series.

I'm a Knights fan (so I hate the Broncos), and CP deserves lock of the year imo.

Bugger Maloney. Thurston should have been international 5/8 easy. His been mom in all but 1 test match this year smashed at origin again and was equal second in the dally M.

your QLD bias is killing me.

he had the worst season ever he will even admit it, they had a good back end to the season but they sat in 14th for 2/3'ds of the year.

One game?

Brough also won the Superleague player of the year award, if you weren't aware.

Scotland weren't even expected to win a game in their pool, but finished unbeaten, and that was mainly down to Brough.

That must make him the best half in the game then??

I wouldn't rate him over DCE based on DCE's form this year ... doesn't mean that anyway, just means he had a great year! Best half in the game I would say depends on consistently excellent form over several seasons. Gotta be Thurston.

Thurston is obv in a similar boat to Maloney due to his early season form and the failure of the Cowboys who depend on him so much. His rep form has been spectacular after his dismal Origin #1 performance, but like Maloney it was pretty easy for the judges to find reason to not give it to Thurston.
