NRL clubs are already starting to discuss outlaying up to $600,000 a season to sign Wests Tigers and NSW Origin prop Aaron Woods.
But there may be a hitch.
The Daily Telegraph understands several clubs, one said to be grand finalists Manly, have held internal talks about signing Woods, who comes off contract at the Tigers after next season.
However, Woods, despite being just 22, has bad knees and recently underwent stem cell surgery.
He didn’t play again after this year’s Origin series and ruled himself out of contention for the World Cup in England.
Woods, though, is one of the game’s premier front-rowers. He is robust, tough and a player who will only improve.
He is on a deal worth about $300,000, but that could nearly double by the end of 2014.
The only issue is how Woods’ knees will stand-up long-term.
Woods loves the Tigers and grew up above a newsagent on Norton St, Leichhardt. He would be reluctant to leave.
But in modern football, money talks and if a club like Manly could offer $600,000 a year, it would be difficult for the Tigers to keep him.
The Sea Eagles will be without props Joe Galuvao (retired), George Rose (Melbourne) and Brent Kite (Penrith) for next season and will be looking to bolster their line up.
Co-skipper Jason King will return in 2014 from injury, but his future beyond next season is undecided.
Woods could make a huge impact at Brookvale.
When NSW legend Steve Roach was asked about Woods before his Origin debut, he was unequivocal in his praise.
"He’s the type of bloke who’ll get in there and he’ll be in the Blues set-up for the next eight years. You watch him go," Roach said.

what a terrible buy? hes a hard worker ill give him that but makes no impact what so ever.
plus they have the Australian Under 20's Prop who was there future star this year that they could probably look to bring in for a few games this season.

Is it because he is stealing Tim Grants thunder, Or because he made over 200 meters when we last beat ya!!
He's a domestic Prop, Not an impact Prop... He's 22 (Played Origin) and quite aware he's got a pot load to work on...
If a team that's played in 4 GF's in 6 years wants him, There must be some merit!!
I'm sure there are quite a few teams (yours included) that could have used his 140 odd metres / Game this year.....
The prop you refer to is unproven at NRL, Could be anything.... Or nothing!!
Woods works on his leg speed and footwork, As well as fills out a bit.... He'd be unlucky not to be the best prop in the game!!
He's still a pup for gods sake....
i think your just trying to make yourself feel better for the fact that your club sold the best prop in the game, all to bring in Adam Blair. Now that makes me Laugh!!!! Fifita is 100 times better than woods and blair put together
plays more minutes, makes more meters, more tackle busts, breaks the line, knows how to throw an offload, hell i remember him putting in a chip n chase to beat the dragons on hooter this year.
and Lol at the Tim Grant Call. i know for a fact that he got picked for Origin Before Woods but failed the medical because he broke his hand doing mods to his car!
maybe we would've won the series had they have not played woods, his 4 hit ups for a barnstorming 19 metres were just brilliant.
I don't think woods is a terrible player but his 300,000 contract now is a joke. doubling it is a piss take. it wouldn't surprise me if woods management released the story to bump up his price a bit.
in saying that manly are light on in the front row, with galuvao, rose, kite all gone and king on his last legs. but if they are willing to fork out 600,000 there not as smart as i thought.

Believe me I am a big fan!! But I saw Fifita's last few games with us in Ressies, (Most of the season in fact)
He was absolute rubbish and needed more than an attitude adjustment.... He was getting made fool of by guys I've not heard of before or since!!
single handedly gave away a game in the finals at ressies level!!
I can tell you there wasn't many sharks fans that were happy about paying him $300,000 last year...
This year, He has definitely stepped in up!! - And good on him,
Had we kept him and he didn't have the likes of Gallen and Lewis to tell him what to do...
I couldn't see that happening!!
So No- I am not trying to justify it!!
Fifita has 2 years on Woods, So in 2 years who knows what could happen...
Because 2 years ago, Fifita was playing ressies... And lucky to be getting a game there!!
All that said, Woods is hardly the mug you make him out to be...
I also can't see him leaving, From my conversations with him he lives and breathes the joint!!
The cap has increased so maybe there is money for an up and comer like him....
As I said he is only 22, I don't remember many starting props who were still old enough to play 20's play a full debut season and make an impact like he has in the last 3 years.... Mostly in a beaten team!! Most props don't have 3 full seasons behind them until they are 25-26!!
But then again, What would I know!!

And "At the time" he unfortunately wasn't playing to earn it...
