Have you guys been watching the NBA Player Rankings? I do not want to talk about the rankings really but what they are saying about the players. Have you read it? Almost any player in the top 50, they are coming up with some obscure association that makes them the only player or one of 3 or 4 players EVER to do .........

Such as
Steph Curry - only player to score 7 3's per game over a season and have >45% 3pt percentage

DH12 - one of only 3 players to ever average at least 17 ppg, 12 rpg and 2 bpg in 6 different seasons

Kyrie - one of only 4 players to ever to average at least 18 ppg and 5 apg while shooting at least 45% FG% in each of their first two NBA seasons

Basically, if you look hard enough almost anyone can be top 5 or 10 in NBA to ever do something.

But one thing.......Kobe is 21st in the league? Thought he would be a lot higher.

Agree they are doing it for traffic and to be controversial and the stats thing has become a joke lately especially espn stats and info, some of thier stuff is just ludicrous. Good for a laugh though if u need one.

Stats can make anyone look better than they are.

It's easy to see some players in the NBA try to make themselves look better by padding their stats on a nightly basis...

I was talking about this last season when they were talking about Lebron.

Something like "only player to average 26points 7assists and 10 rebounds"

Why 26 an 7?? Because others have done 30 and 6, or 25 and 11
That's a bit different cos they're talking about 3 stats.

Has anyone done 30 & 6 whilst averaging doubles digits in rebounds AS WELL?
or a big man gone for 25 & 11 AND 7+ assists.

A triple double is 10 or more in 3 different categories!
You don't here people counting how many times they had 10+ in 2 categories and 7+ in the 3rd!

All I am saying is that you can't make any stat sound better when using odd/random numbers!

Yeah, But getting 1 or 2 Triple doubles in a season is less impressive than AVERAGING 27, 11 & 7 EVERY GAME

That's kind of the point of stats. and they use examples like those to identify how impressive 27, 11 & 7 actually is.

Yeah, I get that!

The problem is that they don't properly compare these stats unless they reach a milestone!

What if someone has only 22points but records more assists and rebounds?? Try looking that up to compare it to Lebron's 27 points! You can't because it isn't recorded as a 'record'. You would have to go back through every recorded stat manually.

Just go have a look at what Oscar Robertson did in his career! He is known for being the ONLY player ever to average a triple double for an ENTIRE season! He had 30.8pts 11.4 ast and 12.5rbs over the season, but they don't tell you that in other season, he was within 1rebound or 1 assist of doing it again 4 MORE TIMES!!

Stats have always been highlighted when they get to milestones - 10, 20, 30 etc... if you use random numbers when it suits, you are doing a disservice to players like the Big O.... possibly a better player than Jordan IMO, but will never be recognised for it!

/end rant
