The Official 2013-14 EPL Season Thread

he only got 66 caps because he wanted to spend more time with his family. he retired in 2004 because of that. capello tried to lure him out of retirement for the 2010 world cup qualifiers. had nothing to do with performance

so he did well for england? wonder why its in my head that he didnt do that great? probably just overall england team performance maybe? dont remember him getting many goals in tournaments? maybe ive just got the wrong idea about him...

your entitled to your opinion. it definantly had something to do with how the England team was set up and where he was being played. when he retired in 2004 he said he wanted to spend more time with his family and focus more on club commitments

i enjoyed watching him. class player. and his international stats are good. but i guess it would be kinda the same for giggs. im sure hes scored goals for wales, but no-one will remember his international career 'cause he never made a scene at a major tournament.

good point. you make the point that certain players don't get the recognition because of where they were born or the country they represent. this is why players should be allowed or given the choice of who they represent given the right circumstances.

true. im not against the idea altogether. where would germany be without its turks and poles? but they all grew up in germany and played their youth football there. i guess it just depends on what someone condiers the 'right circumstances'...

for me right circumstances meaning. a. the player having correct passport. b. wanting to represent the country of his/her choice. c. the country actually selecting the player.

goal of the season or what? ridiculous passing. holey moley they were great to watch last night. COYG!

ballon d'or shortlist announced. only five players playing in the epl make the list (bayern alone has more). no one playing outside of europe, which isnt much of a suprise i guess. and not a single englishman...
i doubt messi will win it again, so i'll go with ribery.

They do seem to love a UCL or major competition winner, so if it's not Messi I think you might be right with Ribery. But personally I think they'll give it to Messi again.
