Some monster cards back from Card Grading Australia

Nice results on the slabs. Not sure if it was answered, did you get the reports for each?

CGA are certainly getting more and more popular among Aussie collectors, which is what we need.

Re: busting a slabbed card, yeah not recommended. Even if it's a shit grade, it will always BE that condition (ie, it won't degrade over time). Certainly won't get any better.

I've seen and read stories of NBA collectors who've had a card graded, got say a 7/10 score, (or say 70/100), and wanted to bust it out of the slab as they determined that to be worse than a raw condition.

I HAVE done it successfully before, but wouldnt do it again. Just too risky.

Yeah sorry forgot to mention but i did get reports for each.
 
Nice, wanna post them up too? Always find them a good read, along with looking at the card(s).

Gives us a better understanding too, as to what others might grade at, etc.
 
Nice cards Owen,

From all the comments I think CGA should look at introducing a binder or similar that allows us to display the graded cards, that to me is currently a major drawback.

This might be a strange question, but ill put it out there.

Wouldnt the grading of a card have the potential to lower its value?

If you were to offer an ungraded card for sale, a buyer would see the card as fine and offer accordingly. Have the card graded and a few minor issues as mentioned in the first post bring the score to 75 or whatever, all of a sudden the buyer might view the card as flawed/not perfect and may lower the cards ability to pull the proper price.

Does this happen?

Possibly, and I think that is what woobie is saying above, where guys break cards out of slabs if they don't get the grade they expected. Personally I wouldn't be sending one unless I was very confident of the grade. Also, as long as you get a grade of near mint or better, I would think it couldn't possibly lower the value
 
^ Yeah I've seen it happen with NBA stuff.

Thing about graded cards, is once it's graded, it's done. The value SHOULD be pretty much locked in for life. ie, the quality shouldnt decrease over time from handling, etc. - a raw card, ungraded can move around, change hands, change cases, etc, etc, which degrade its condition.

Say a card receives a 6 or 7 rating, a rating most would consider poor for a modern card (older/vintage cards are a whole new kettle of fish). But that 6 or 7 graded card, might come across as less of a value to a raw (ungraded) version of the same card. An ungraded version, always has the possibility to grade higher (than the 6 or 7 card). 8.5 and up in ratings, IMO, are more appealing (again, in modern cards) than an ungraded card.

I personally prefer 9s or 10s when it comes to graded cards. Just my preference.

I think the opposite actually. If a card is flawed then its flawed whether its graded or not. The point here is if your a buyer you know exactly what your getting rather than a seller saying the old "judge the condition for yourself from the photo".

Signatures are graded separately i believe. I would have to clarify that exactly though.
