...And my timing is really bad.

Some of you probably know I have been collecting the upper deck lineage flight team autograph set for years. I got really close to complete.
14 months ago while on my honeymoon my kobe flight team was stolen from me. This was the beginning of the end for my collection.
I found the tyrus Thomas not long after, and now only had 3 cards to go once agin, the kobe (which made me so angry to think about) mcgrady and carter.
mcgrady and carter proved to be very illusive, I had never seen either come up in the years I had been chasing.

A while later another kobe was offered to me. But I suddenly realized I really didn't want to pay twice as much as I had paid for my original one. Sure the price had gone up on many UD kobe autos, but just the thought. Of having to pay that much to get it again depressed me.

Months go by, and I had been on the fence deciding where to go from here.

Then a few weeks ago, I decided enough is enough, keep the lebron auto for the memories, sell the rest.

And I did. And it was hard to see them go but now they are gone and I can move on.

Yesterday my eBay alert went off....

Both carter and mcgrady are both on eBay... For the first time in years.

I am honestly so depressed about it right now. I know I shouldn't because its pointless and I'm not suppossed to be spending money ATM, but I'm trying really hard not to bid on them.

This timing is so messed up. This is honestly the most depressed this hobby has ever made me feel.

Today is not a good day.

What would you do right now if you where me?

I feel terrible for you Shaun :(

Having the Kobe stolen, already having sold the rest of your set chase and now finding both cards you needed for sale would be like having salt rubbed into the wound. It is either a sign for you to start trying to find them again or just pick up these 2 holy grails because you know how hard they are to find.

Yeah if my income was disposable at the moment it would be a no brainer to grab them for what ever they go for, but it really isn't.

The smarter side of me is say to just walk away. I really don't have the money to be spending on cards right now. But then the other side of me is thinking what if I do nothing, and then the cards sell very reasonably priced? I'll be kicking myself for not having a crack.

I have no idea what these cards will go for. I mean they are in numbered sticker autos from a not overly popular set. But then if there's other people out there that have been trying for the set, or mcgrady and carter collectors that realize these cards do not come up very often, this might drive the prices up.

I'm thinking maybe I'll set a reasonable snipe on them. And if they go higher, then its done. At least I took a punt at them.

Man that seriously sucks. I am at the same stage (prior to selling off though) with 11/12 SP Authentic Home Court Signatures Set, with only 3 left to go. You have provided me with inspiration to keep going, now that I can see what the potential crap feeling would be like.

"Better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all" is my motto Shaun :-)
Wow you are so right. And your words make me think. Maybe it's not in my best interests to go for these cards. I mean in going to be ecstatic finally landing mcgrady and carter! But I feel maybe the passion has gone as far as set completion goes. I know I'm not going to be as excited as i once was about getting names like jr Giddens, sonny weems and Sean Williams second time around. Maybe I really should just let it go.

In so glad my situation has inspired you to go on! That's really a great thing!

Shaun, my advice is to set a reasonable snipe at an amount you can afford and don't follow the auction so it doesn't tempt you to bid again. You will feel buyers remorse if you overspend too. You don't need to own the whole set to get enjoyment anyway. If you get the cards, you have the LeBron to go with them and you know these are the hardest cards to get.

I agree with Exzibit3 You have done it before so you can do it again, at least you know these 2 are the hardest. If you can get ahold of them at a reasonable price do it throw them with the lebron and in time you can slowly gather the others.

Shaun, serves me right for trying to be clever - I was thinking more along the line of you have nothing to lose by going for those cards...as the last two posters have said :-)

Damn man this does suck. Sh*t happens i guess. I've had a pretty ordinary day at work myself. Turn off your eBay alerts and focus on something else.

It is pretty clear to me that <insert whoever you believe in here (god, allah, The captain of scientology)> is trying to tell you that you weren't meant to finish that set!

It is a bit extreme for him to stage the theft and then wait until you sold some to list his McGrady, but that is the way the cookie crumbles! For it to also coincide with a time that you cannot really afford to spend on the cards, also tells me that you are not meant to buy them! Maybe it is because there is something else coming in your life that needs your full attention and finances??

Man, that was deep! But I am just saying that it doesn't always go the way you expect, but if you keep focussed on the bigger, it will end up going the way you want! ;)

all good, i thought you might have been thinking that, but those words just took me on another train of thought.
