not so much these days. one plays left hand side of the ruck and one the right hand side. not many of them that get around both sides of the park.

That is exactly how it is! That is why there is very few good 5/8's, and they dont run the ball.

I think that goes hand in hand with modern league being so structured. The best 5/8's are the ones who don't play to structure but play what they see. Foran and Carney are the best in the NRL at this style and prior to his knee injuries this is what made Campese so devastating.
